D&D 5E (2024) Stone Goliath, Fire Goliath, Frost Goliath, Hill Goliath, Cloud Goliath, and Storm Goliath Lore

I had thought they were in MotM, but yeah, they're only in Icewind Dale thus far, so I'd place a good bet on reprinting them here, given that it's a sort of Rules Expansion type book while Icewind Dale is an adventure.

D&D General Extra Credits: The History of D&D Hasbro Refused to Learn

I turned the video off when it was clear they had a very anti-4e, pro-Pathfinder bias. No ill will toward Pathfinder, personally, though. Just didn't want to even engage in the complex feelings that come up from that sort of thing.

D&D 5E (2024) Stone Goliath, Fire Goliath, Frost Goliath, Hill Goliath, Cloud Goliath, and Storm Goliath Lore

I wish, and for Fomorians too, but neither of those are classical members of the Ordning. They got upgraded to MM1-level status in 4e due to synergy with the Shadowfell and Feywild, respectively. It's relatively easy to homebrew those variants, though!

    D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Document: 77 Pages, 7 Classes, & More!

It's not just that. The market was hosed, but they also hosed it in such a way that gave birth to oggles of competitors that they were hosing just to keep up with the output. 5e is more confident to peddle along with 3-7 releases a year (including special edition reprints, recompliations, etc)...

D&D 5E (2024) Stone Goliath, Fire Goliath, Frost Goliath, Hill Goliath, Cloud Goliath, and Storm Goliath Lore

The main reason I see 2 not panning out is that Planescape is a few months away now, and they may not have made the decision in time for the book to get it. There should have been enough time, but the way they talk about it in that video from a few months ago, it sounds like the Ardling if...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 5.11 - the time of big change is over

Regarding UA survey results and analysis: It’s worth rewatching this D&D Beyond official video from February explaining their analysis of the survey results and how they balance against broader interest: why the Ardling and Jump Action got cut, why Goliath is in, how they parse more than just...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 6: Bard

Fair. I think what I’d make these 2 spells count toward your spells prepared total (as opposed to other class/subclass feature freebies). I didn’t realise Lore Bard players lost their mind, though I also imagine that’s tied in with how restricted the Bard list was on Playtest Packet 2 to begin...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 6: Bard

Was just reading Brandes Stoddard's Bard breakdown over on Tribality, and it got me thinking: What if Magical Discoveries was baselined as a core class feature at like 3rd or 5th level, but you couldn't swap these 2 spells from other power sources out until 10th level when you have access to...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 6: Bard

Yeah, thought you already liked Bard = Shaman, so I was eager to hear your thoughts on the new variable spell lists! :)

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 6: Bard

Just had a thought, especially wanting @Yaarel 's opinion! People who wanted Charisma shaman characters? Primal Bards. In fact, the College of Spirits might be a perfect choice for this. I'd still houserule that you can use a ceremonial mask as your spell focus when you take the College of...

    D&D 5E (2024) A new idea for Topple

How about Break-> Topple -> Daze -> Burst or Break -> Topple -> Launch -> Smash? ala Xenoblade? I Like the idea of having to break their stance before you can topple them.

D&D 5E (2024) Are Bishops "Clerics" or "Priests"

If we define Priest as "ordained or an unaffiliated prophet within the faith of a religion", and Bishops as "a high-ranking ordained priest," then All Clerics are Priests, and all Bishops are Priests, but not all Priests are Clerics and not all Priests are Bishops and not all Bishops are Clerics.

    D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Document: 77 Pages, 7 Classes, & More!

Maybe have a Recharge Dice pool, which is equal to but separate from your HD. Depending on the length of your SR, you can roll 1 or more RD. 10 min = 1 RD 20 min = 2 RD 30 min = 3 RD 40 min = 4 RD 50 min = 5 RD 60 min = 6 RD Choose a SR recharge feature and roll a number of RD equal to 1/10th...

    D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Document: 77 Pages, 7 Classes, & More!

Maybe some sort of risk/reward table for short rests; you can recharge a portion of your SR pool or heal some HP in proportional ranges from 10m to 1 hr, but 1 HR recharges all of it, but the longer the rest, the higher the rate of risk of a complication arising (perhaps longer SRs add dice to...

    D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Document: 77 Pages, 7 Classes, & More!

Huh, I would have thought that because before you said most people didn't have a lunch hour, you'd be fine with the 30 min SR which is the standard lunch break for my contractors. They also get 15 min snack/coffee breaks every couple hours, so that lends itself to a 15/15/30/15/15 set up for...

    D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Document: 77 Pages, 7 Classes, & More!

FYI -- I also don't love full recovery on a long rest, and plan to provide this feedback to WotC on the survey. I think it would be nice to have a third category of rest -- Extended Downtime -- built into the game as a core rule assumption, rather than as something in the DMG. And I DO use them...

    D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Document: 77 Pages, 7 Classes, & More!

EDITED: Split out into separate post because I was editing it into the post when @Ruin Explorer liked the original post without this additional response, and I want to clearly delineate these as two separate subposts of the same overarching thread, which may or may not have the same reaction. I...

    D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Document: 77 Pages, 7 Classes, & More!

Funnily enough, I don't think 4e was that gamist. Yes, it tried to outright balance the classes with similar amounts of AED-recharging powers/class features and give everyone choices of Utility powers/class features as well, but the books spent a similar amount of time looking at other pillars...

    D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Document: 77 Pages, 7 Classes, & More!

I know I'm not the only one here who has espoused a preference for 1-hour short rests. Not going to dig back through 26 pages of this thread and all the other threads that have touched on this to find and cite the others who have seemed to support it. I also think they can speak well enough for...
