It's vital that SD not be played like 5e or even 2e. Danger should be telegraphed so players can make informed choices. Combat will happen, of course, but players should have chances to avoid it, bluff or intimidate their way through. Yes, you lose spells on a failed roll, but if you succeed...

Sales go up when Stranger Things is airing, but it's not exactly propping the game up. I think D&D will survive the lack of Stranger Things.

It's possible that the new set's goodies will lure in new players. I love Free League sets because of the stuff. Maps, tokens, etc. might make the game feel more approachable, especially if they are boardgamers. Is WotC pushing replay ability? That could help, even if it's not exactly accurate.

Visual aids are really helpful with spells, which are still described as cones, lines, spheres, etc.

There's some self balancing going on as well. A "spotlight hog" will run out of resources pretty quick and naturally draw the bulk of the opposition's ire.

I haven't read it but Krypto shows up in the comic book run of "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" which the new Supergirl movie is based on. Guess Gunn thinks it'll be easier to have Krypto attached to Kara.
