D&D General Your last adventure in photos.

When I ran the Reign of Winter adventure path I expanded on it with a bunch of time plot and different incarnation elements for "The Baba Yaga" along with the Hut that is bigger on the inside and can travel to different worlds. There can be a lot of rich overlap between Doctor Who and Baba Yaga...

D&D General Your last adventure in photos.

Took me a little while to find the hut. The Froghemoth(?) tends to draw the eye in that picture for me. Did the Hut have a Time Lady witch associated with it?

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

It makes a big difference on what the afterlife is like. If it is 4e D&D where Asmodeus lives in Hell, is a real god with powered clerics, and death sends you to the Shadowfell before moving on to the unknown it makes no difference on your afterlife if you worship him or a good god. In Dante's...

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

I found moral alignment useful as a guide in portraying a monster or NPC. Just a possible hook to riff off of. So CE 3e orcs were generally rowdy marauder lawbreakers. LE AD&D orcs were bullying thugs who worked for a boss. It did not matter if different people would interpret those...

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

I liked 3e alignment as pure descriptors and cosmic forces. So animate dead to create undead has the evil descriptor not because it is icky, but because it is tapping into a cosmic force of evil. I leaned into this in house rules giving undead the Evil descriptor, fey the Chaos descriptor etc...

True20 Freeport: The Lost Island True20 Undead: As the rulers grew desperate and their armies depleted, they instructed their magicians to call upon preternatural forces for help. As a result, scorching magics added to the devastation. Amidst this chaos, new gods touched the minds of futilely...

D&D General In 2025 FR D&D should PCs any longer be wary of the 'evil' humanoids?

James Spader, Kurt Russell, Ancient Egypt, and Sci-Fi. I liked it. :) The movie didn't have any non-English letters. In the title that is.

D&D General In 2025 FR D&D should PCs any longer be wary of the 'evil' humanoids?

I do not read 2e tieflings the same way. PC ones were probably good or neutral, but that was the same for any race (including drow) in 2e which discouraged evil PCs entirely. 2e drow PCs could be any alignment, 2e tieflings are the ones who cannot be LG as PCs. The Planescape Monstrous...

D&D General In 2025 FR D&D should PCs any longer be wary of the 'evil' humanoids?

I see it completely the other way. It is completely in world whether a ward placed on a church from a hallow spell that keeps out all fey keeps out an individual goblin or not. Even casting hallow the caster must affirmatively choose the type for the effect. I completely expect casters with the...

D&D General In 2025 FR D&D should PCs any longer be wary of the 'evil' humanoids?

I don't own the 2024 MM or anything written by WotC after it, but my understanding is that while 2024 MM humanoid NPC stat blocks are written to be explicitly of any alignment and non humanoid type monster stat blocks have default alignments specified in the MM entry the difference between...

EN World What you thought a thread title said.

There is always the classic Horror on the Orient Express. For a shorter D&D one along a similar theme there is the Eberron Nightmare on the Mournland Express. Hell Train is a short Dungeon Crawl Classics adventure for Weird Frontiers. I am sure there are a bunch of Deadlands ones as well...

    Undead Origins

True20 Adept's Handbook True20 Undead, Undead Creature: Necromancy began as a form of divination seeking to communicate with the spirits of the deceased. Since its inception, this supernatural tradition has been influenced by the darker arts such as diabolism, and it has been expanded to include...
