Wheel of Time - No Spoilers

As much as I’d like to let my joke lie, the half of me that wasn’t really joking insists on elaboration: My experience as a DM made me a far better supervisor (and vise versa). And without alignments, how would I ever be able to describe which version of evil my bosses were? As for Lord of the...

Wheel of Time - No Spoilers

If you are implying that D&D and Lord of the Rings lack real world applicability, you must certainly have a far different definition of “real world applicability” than I!

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

That didn’t stop them from using machine guns and Stark weaponry in Iron Man. But maybe that was a franchised branch? Of course it could just be as simple as this: where the various films differ in genre, the rules of the MCU differ in minor ways to reflect it. This would also explain the...

Level Up (A5E) Press the Attack/Fall Back update

Surely if the movement is part of someone else’s reaction, it has to be extra! (But I don’t think that’s right. The relevant line from Fall Back: “As part of its action, your attacker can move 5 feet towards you.” That must mean the bonus action Press the Attack, since that is what triggers...

Level Up (A5E) Press the Attack/Fall Back update

Fair enough. Let me rephrase: I think it must be extra movement, because there’s no reason to include it in the description otherwise; if you have movement left, you can move closer anyway the description says it is part of the attacker’s [presumably bonus] action. If the intent is that the 5 ft...

New Spider-man no way home trailer

It’s the same suit we’ve seen in full in the trailer, but I guess that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s Tom Holland.

These days, yes. A decade ago, not so much.

New Spider-man no way home trailer

I don’t think that’s really how studios work, though. Generally, more money invested means more studio interference. There’s a reason most sequels feel tonally entirely different than (or like hollow imitations of) the original. It’s a rare director who has had enough success to have carte...

New Spider-man no way home trailer

I once ran a game with two NPC scouts named Matt and Locke.

Tell that to my halfling, Hunglo Bigguns!

New Spider-man no way home trailer

I think, in this movie, they’re going to be counting on the audience bringing expectations about these villains into it with them (how else could they do so many?). Introducing new villains would undercut that.

    D&D 5E (2014) Assaying rules for 5E E6 (Revised)

Ah, but the question is: Do most players stop playing by level 10 because higher levels are never well-supported, or do WotC never support high-level play well because most players stop by then? The answer is probably Yes.

Level Up (A5E) Roaring Pause OP?

I guess, strictly speaking, the character using this ability is probably a creature, and therefore will also be stopped if they succeed on their own check.

Level Up (A5E) Roaring Pause OP?

So, if you have two characters succeed with this ability, do they cancel each other out? Or do they both stop one at a time?

Level Up (A5E) Purchasing, Carrying, and Expiring Supply

Pretty sure prestidigitation only says it “warms” something for up to an hour. On the other hand, it can instantly ignite a small campfire. Taken together, those seem to imply prestidigitation cannot sustain enough heat long enough to bring water to a boil.

    D&D 5E (2014) Assaying rules for 5E E6 (Revised)

I don’t think this is inconsistent with what I was talking about, but I realize I could have been clearer. I wasn’t talking about how E6 changes the way the world views the characters (although, if I was, that still would say nothing about their mortality). I was saying that E6 changes how the...

Level Up (A5E) Purchasing, Carrying, and Expiring Supply

To be fair, though: “That is actually a myth pushed by many movies and the like” is a pretty good definition of D&D.

    D&D 5E (2014) Assaying rules for 5E E6 (Revised)

Precisely this. But I would also add that part of what made E6 what it was is a redefinition of what “epic” means to the game-world. Teleport? Plane Shift? Not possible. Greater Invisibility? Nope. The pinnacle of magical achievement in the world for mere mortals is the fly or fireball spell...
