(+) Help Develop an IRON DM Spin-Off!

One more consideration: Each week, the judges could incorporate a fan-favorite category into their scoring. This could be achieved (while remaining hidden) by soliciting private messages from spectators. Each vote would then translate to an additional point added to the score.

(+) Help Develop an IRON DM Spin-Off!

    @Gradine, @el-remmen, @Wicht, @CleverNickName, @Neurotic, @FitzTheRuke, @humble minion, @Deuce Traveler, @Radiating Gnome, @Iron Sky Is this spin-off a thing we still want to happen? And, if so, this Spring?

    What If...?

Movies too. maybe not many movies, because character arcs have become kind of a cliché, but two very successful ones (in every sense) that come to mind are Back to the Future and Ghostbusters. The only character development in the former is that Doc is willing to read Marty’s note. And in the...

(+) Help Develop an IRON DM Spin-Off!

My personal preference would be that the final week consists of a single challenge: incorporating the elements of previous weeks into a full (if brief) written adventure. While also incorporating the new ingredients for the week. A proposed structure: Week 1: World-Building. Contestants have...

(+) Help Develop an IRON DM Spin-Off!

Where were we? Ah, yes. In developing a new format for an IRON DM contest following the 2020 tournament, we had established a basic structure for the project modeled loosely on various long-form reality TV cooking competitions. So far, it looks something like this: A panel of judges...

    IRON DM 2021 Tournament

I think, if I were the contestant (and, who knows – maybe I will be next year?), I’d prefer an honestly-presented critical assessment over one filtered through an entertaining persona. On the one hand, the obviously over-the-top presentation makes it harder to take personally, which isn’t a bad...

    What If...?

Which is why I called him a charismatic (noun). A demagogue. A Machiavellian. Or, as you say, a grifter. (Noting that his grift is not just on the king and queen, but all Wakandans. Also, Tony, Rhodes, and Ross.)

    What If...?

Now that you mention it, it’s kind of weird he didn’t commission two infinity gauntlets. For symmetry.

    What If...?

That’s not all we saw, though. We also saw the rise of a charismatic who infiltrates and dominates by swaying hearts and minds.* We didn’t see nearly as much of that in the movie. * And just in time for Dune to hit theaters. What a coincidence!

D&D General D&D Combat is fictionless

From what I gather, I think the issue isn’t really that the rules don’t allow for any coherent narrative. The issue appears to be that they sometimes (often?) stand in the way of a narrative of simultaneous action that (for whatever reason) the OP desires. And this is absolutely true, despite...

D&D General D&D Combat is fictionless

I agree with all of this generally, but will add that Dungeon World doesn’t have to lack tactics. It’s just that those tactics have to be established narratively. With regard to the disconnect in D&D (especially WotC-era D&D), I think there are two main culprits: 1. An emphasis on grid-based...

    Hawkeye Trailer

I think WandaVision is better if you go into it with the mindset that it is a horror story. Sure, it has the trappings of those old sitcoms, but the tone is off. Deliberately and from the start.

    Hawkeye Trailer

The MCU Hawkeye is awesome. Always cool under pressure. Always ready with an assist. Fully capable of inspiring someone back into the fight when Cap isn’t around. Captain America may lead from the front, but Hawkeye is the subtle support that makes the Avengers a team. Hawkeye is the glue.

    D&D 5E (2014) Synergy with Command spell

Flee is probably the best all-around option. It’ll take its target(s) out of the fight for two rounds. One spent running away and the other spent running back. The utility of other options will depend on the situation.

There is that, too. Back then it was just the one judge, even: @el-remmen.

    IRON DM 2021 Tournament

Speaking as one of the two people who have lost to Vaxalon in such a match (before he retired with the only undefeated record in IRON DM history), I wouldn’t exactly say the experience was unfair; I agreed to do it, after all. Not unfair – as an exhibition match. But I was drained by the time...

    IRON DM 2021 Tournament

Oh right. I remember that 2013 tourney, now. RG’s 2nd round entry was a lot of fun. In some ways similar to Gradine’s 3rd round entry in this one. What with the time travel shenanigans on a boat (the Titanic, in that one). Similar, but also very different. Pretty sure it’s in the anthology.

    IRON DM 2021 Tournament

Which tournament did RG win the 3rd round match in? I don’t have him in my master list of champions and need to correct that if I somehow missed one. Or, it might have been in a round-robin tournament, I guess.
