    D&D 5E (2014) What interupts a long rest?

If I may answer this question with a different question: Would 59 minutes of walking interrupt a long rest? If we’re going to get hung up on the minutiae of timing, we may as well use the part of the rule that isn’t debatable. But, really, that kind of misses the point. The intent of the rule...

    D&D 5E (2014) What interupts a long rest?

Anyone who thinks an hour-long combat is impossible in 5e clearly hasn’t harassed their party with hit-and-run tactics from foes unseen. The worst part is never knowing when or from where they’ll be attacked next – but they still have to keep those actions readied, or they’ll never be able to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Looting during combat wtf ?

Spare the dying won’t let them take actions, though. It only stabilizes them (leaving them unconscious). The only way to get them back on their feet in combat is to actually heal them. (This does mean characters who have been stabilized with spare the dead are still vulnerable to coup de grâce...

    Spiderman No Way Home Trailer

There’s been speculation on the youtubes that the guy in the trailer who slams down the files in front of Peter (and can be seen walking in front of the room just prior) is Charlie Cox. I don’t buy it, though, since Matt Murdock’s public persona requires a cane to get around.

I certainly hope for that, though not necessarily in Spiderman. Most of the Defenders would be good, actually. They could recast Danny Rand, though.

D&D 5E (2014) To boxed text or not to boxed text

Another problem with boxed text: It invariably assumes the players will not interrupt it with questions or declarations of action. The accuracy of that assumption is inversely proportional to the length of the boxed text. And for some reason most adventure-writers do not realize that, when it...

D&D 5E (2014) To boxed text or not to boxed text

I’m all for challenging vocabulary in some contexts, but boxed text isn’t it. The point of boxed text is to paint a picture in the imagination through rhythm and diction. If you have to interrupt the flow to clarify, you’ve defeated the point.

D&D 5E (2014) All I do is Bless, Bless, Bless

During the high-level play section of my (somewhat) recent 1-20 campaign I gave the ranger a bow that (among other features) could concentrate on hunters’ mark for him. He still had to cast it, though. Worked well. Not sure how good an example this is, though. Rangers are the weakest...

D&D 5E (2014) All I do is Bless, Bless, Bless

Command to flee is good, too. It takes it’s target(s) out of the fight for two turns. One turn spent running away and another spent running back.

Really, I was just making an excuse to transition into talking about how Peter Parker doesn’t currently control EDITH. But, yay me. I won something.* *(Nothing.)

D&D 5E (2014) To boxed text or not to boxed text

I prefer bullet points to boxed text. Boxed text usually doesn’t convey important information efficiently. It often isn’t well-prioritized and it’s very difficult for players to parse without having to be repeated. I guess it’s okay if your goal is to misdirect the players.

D&D 5E (2014) All I do is Bless, Bless, Bless

I mainly save Bless for fights where we’re going to need to make a lot of saving throws. The hit bonus is nice, but not necessary in a lot of fights. At low-levels, I did use it in most fights, if I could, though. Less (really good) concentration spells competing. Also, best use for Command...

    Spiderman No Way Home Trailer

I prefer to ignore rumors. Even when they are accurate (which is not often) knowing what they are ahead of actually watching the movie/show/whatever can never positively affect my viewing experience. At best they will lack the necessary context of the surrounding movie/show to be meaningful. At...
