    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

I am mildly annoyed that people are mildly annoyed at people who hate things, i.e. a strong dislike for a game mechanic or idea. its a perfectly normal human emotion to say "I hate thing x" to let of some steam. The cult of positivity has gone so far these days that people are so afraid to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

It's ok to hate stuff. As long as its a game. And generally, I really like 5e. I hate the plethora of arcane spellcaster subclasses. I don't like the fact that anything's magic, or magic-capable. I liked that magic was more special. I hate some of the class level abilities. They seem needless...

    D&D 5E (2014) How To Darksun

Sorry, the DS setting -is- low magic. All wizards are hunted on Athas. Defilers are universally shunned. Preservers have to live in hiding. The only reason Sorcerer Kings exist is they are too powerful to topple. Otherwise there'd be a revolution (and there's already been one in in Tyr)...

    Dark Sun

In my opinion. Dark Sun is a setting that requires its own classes. All the PHB ones are geared towards high fantasy, particularly where magic use comes. So many magic-using subclasses.

    Dark Sun

I don't think so. It's a way of collecting energy to fuel your spells, and preservers need to be able to defile. It needs a different ruleset for casting magic than what exists in 5e if it is to be portrayed accurately.

    D&D 5E (2014) How To Darksun

I have a feeling like most of the official stuff designed to be 5e-friendly is going to be unusable if you want a more gritty, low-fantasy Dark Sun campaign. I'm watching Mike Mearl's happy fun hour, and he's treating the psionicist as a wizard, essentially. But you never know. I might be...

    D&D 5E (2014) How To Darksun

Hi, Stumbled across this thread as I am currently redesigning 5e to suit my Dark Sun campaign. I always wanted to play Dark Sun, but never wanted to play 2e after 3e came out. I never really did like the rules mechanics of 2e (thought they were hastily written and all over the place). I skipped...

Condolences to the victims of the Indonesia quake

Swedes were one of the Scandinavian nations hit most, with 1000+ missing at the moments. Here in Norway some 400 have gone missing, 20 dead. My hopes and prayers for the people of all nations affected by this tragedy.

Lost City of Gaxmoor - The Borderlands Campaign

Old enemies, new allies "I'm are going to meet the representatives of the entire Scornic league in two days. I would like you to represent me in the military affairs of the Borderlands." "I see." Sigurd chewed the meat slowly. "What do you mean?" "I think it would be unwise." The Margrave...

Lost City of Gaxmoor - The Borderlands Campaign

What? Almost TPK... again? Great writeup of a tragic day in our small band of adventurers' history. They'll have to start digging mass graves back in Gaxmor for fallen adventurers if this goes on for much longer.

Lost City of Gaxmoor - The Borderlands Campaign

Bit of background drop for you guys... ******** Kingdom Cold wind and sleets of snow and ice swept against Sigurd's face as he came to the end of his journey. Through this bleak, mountainous landscape he had gone for several days without food or rest. Two Trafalgaric guards, eastlenders...

Lost City of Gaxmoor - The Borderlands Campaign

Although Sigurd's envy of hearing about your demon-croc bashing adventures is great, he's certainly looking forward to putting H. in the sh*thouse next sunday. :D

'Why I hate 'Lord of the Rings' '

IMO If PJ did a pitched fight btw. Elrond and Isildur it would ruined that whole scene. Besides, if Elrond at this stage attacks, Isildur would only have used the ring and escaped, which would have corrupted him further.

Are women just bored of the rings?

Uh yeah, but as for being film characters in the -films- what did these women really do? Arwen had a crucial role in FOTR when she saved Frodo, but in TT was left hanging, and in ROTK showed up for the ending Galadriel seems to have more importance for the quest, but her presence is like Arwen...

[spoilers request] Who is "Keyser Soze"?

Please, it annoys me to read that some of you think screenwriting is all about keeping the audience from 'figuring it out'. Being a writer is about creating great and believable characters and stories, not about your ability to create those Hollywoodish twists and turns in a story to may keep...

[SPOILERS] THE Return of the King Thread

I also thought the beacons were brilliantly captivated. There were these shots the second units must have spent ages on, getting the right angle, finding the perfect mountains, finding the right light... and only get it into the film for about 5 secs... I could have watched them for hours...

[spoilers request] Who is "Keyser Soze"?

Keyser Soze is a purely fictional character Kevin Spacey invents out of the wallpapers and newspapers clips behind the cop's desk if I remember correctly.
