Totally agree... both with "faking it" using the victory points mechanic and with the fact that Heroes of Battle was grossly underrated. Another option is to grab Savage Worlds: Explorer's Edition and use their one page mass combat system to resolve the battles. Brilliant.

Savage Worlds seems to be the "go to" system for Western games and pretty much anything else. Why not give it a try? It's very cheap, too, and there's a lot of fan-made stuff available.

Yes, I should have been clearer. That's on of the reasons I like Ed Bourelle's maps: functionality. I also like my walls to align to the grids (unlike those horrid Maure Castle maps). I don't care what would be more accurate or realistic: just make it easy for me to map.
