D&D's October Product Revealed to Be Stranger Things Tie-In

Nothing was better than the Hackmaster GM screen. The picture on the front even changed as you flipped more panels to the GM side!

Oh, definitely. And as a reader of 1970/1980s genre mash up fiction, I get the "Well, Middle Age folks would call an alien a demon," vibe. It's just in my head, either commit to the bit or don't. DB pretty much writes up their demons as just demons. Even in Forbidden Lands, the obviously psychic...

The challenge for Hot Springs is for a system agnostic setting, it really goes deep for a whole hierarchy/civilization of elementals. From floating spheres of leadership to mud/steam imps made of mixed elements, only D&D/adjacent has that much elemental variety due to needing monsters and their...

Now that I remember, it also probably doesn't hurt to have Ben write for your game as well, as he did a Forbidden Lands adventure. Hexenwald in The Spire of Quetzel. That is cool and I assume it's because the Nordic Skalds feel DB's OSR vibe as well. I really want to take DB for a spin in a...

He's even covered the play-doh wargame. So while he has a focus, he's also shown things he thinks are super cool but less adjacent. He'll probably get to it one day - and getting a free copy probably wouldn't hurt. :ROFLMAO:

I've also been hoping Ben Milton of Questing Beast would cover Dragonbane. He must know about it by now? Then again, I've heard him say in a few reviews that he got the product gratis. So maybe that's part of his criteria.

There's A New Edition Of The Cypher System Coming

The Old Ways Podcast just had a fantasy stream with Sean from MCG running the game using the new rules. There will now be a approximately 25 to 30 Types broken down by genre and even subgenres (High fantasy vs Sword and Sorcery.) It's designed so players can pick a PC quickly if need be.

Loved the spotlight. He should do a DB campaign.

Other D&D Variant Dragonsbane Vs Shadowdark

For me, with Dragonbane being more low level fantasy and having BRP/RQ/Pendragon style mechanics, I feel that I can steal from both the OSR and BRP/RQ material. For off the cuff conversions, OSR to DB, an orc is an orc and for RQ, a creature can be converted into NPCs by dividing skills by...

That is a trickier question as the Journey rules add playtime before you even get to a location. You often create an additional mini-encounters from the Journeys before you even get to the actual adventure. I ran two weekly campaigns, one was 2 hour sessions which lasted a year and a 4 hours...

There's A New Edition Of The Cypher System Coming

For those who want to know the difference between the versions of Cypher, here we go. The first version was more player focused in the character building section. Everything you needed to know about a Type or Focus was listed under said Type or Focus. It suggested reskinning abilities when you...

WizKids to Release Amethyst Dragon Miniature

It's happing in adjacent wargaming hobby as well. CGL's Leviathan's Kickstarter had great 3D renders of their flying battleships but evidently the manufacturer requested the detail be scaled back on some of the pre-painted ships. Until more companies learn how to adjust for for manufacturing...

The industry in general should start using a disclaimer of some sort. "Digital render, actual product may differ."

There's A New Edition Of The Cypher System Coming

I understand, it makes me wonder why I get that. When it come to 3pp 5e setting books they are always stand alone books with the core rules for combat reprinted from the SRD. I always wondered why people thought having to reference between two books was so much more difficult compared to...

4d6 drop the lowest, so it's a higher than average bell curve. You assign as you go but you can then swap around two scores at the end. More like random within a fairly common range of numbers. Interestingly, the game has you chose your kin, profession, and then roll stats.

I find you can also turn the dial on the heroic level of the game when players get up to a 17 in an attribute due to the basic/trained skill level and the d6 bonus damage dice. So for my last game, I wanted it to be a bit more gritty and I gave an array of 14, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8. It worked...

My fellow is even a bit different in that regard, instead of being solely perfect in combat or skills, he wants to be the second best in everything. It's a competency power fantasy. He always wants to be the one with the all the answers, combat is his last resort but he wants to be good at...
