D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

The rant had exactly NOTHING to do with, or judgement against, people that find DMing hard. It was precisely aimed at grifters. You can feel all kinds of offended if you like. I can't control how you feel. But don't leverage charges of abelism against me.

Sometimes I wonder why there isn't some sort of TTRPG advocacy group that does this kind of research in the open. I would gladly support such an organization. Companies doing their own secret market research does not help the community or industry.

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

It would be very interesting to get soem data on how people come to GMing. Is it more common for a group of friends to decide that they want to play D&D, and one of them ends up volunteering or being cajoled into DMing? Or is it more common for a player to decide to "graduate" into DMing and...

D&D General AI Art for D&D: Experiments

When GenAI gets "good enough" (and it seems close; just look at the difference between early posts in this thread and recent ones) what happens then?

I don't see the difference in my further explanation, but that's likely a me problem.

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

I was not making any arguments about when a new GM should try a long form campaign. I was responding to.the poster that suggested they wouldn't even give the new GM a chance because as a player they were looking for a long term campaign (although a year hardly seems to.qualify). Again: the rant...

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

It occurs to me that while I never specified the age group of the hypothetical new DM, a lot of folks in this thread are assuming an adult. I wonder why that is.

You should read the post I was responding to.

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

Your expectations are too high, and your language fits directly into the discouraging, negative attitude I wish would go away. That "sub par" GM is very likely going to get better as that year long campaign progresses, simply by virtue of practice and -- if the players are not jerks about it --...

D&D General D&D Dungeon Map Design: Good and Bad

I thought we might look at a map (that I think is a really good design) just as a way to discuss some specifics: This is, of course, a map by @Dyson Logos from his thread where he shares many, many great maps. I like this one for a few reasons, but most because it has a LOT of paths to...

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

Let's not put the cart before the horse. We aren't talking about being amazing out of the gate. that is, in fact, exactly the problem here: making it sound like one simply can't run a fun game for their friends the first time they GM is discouraging people to give GMing a try. We should stop...

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

This feels a little bit of a non sequitur to the bit you quoted. But helpfully illustrative: A person (you even) might find GMing hard. That is completely beside the point of the rant, which is aimed at people trying to sell you garbage to solve the problem, when what you really need is time...

No. That was about a writing assignment. I thought it was about gaming in general, but then I realized it wasn't. If you want to weaponize posts, consider reading the whole thread.

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

People that do GM need to stop talking about how hard it is and talk about how fun it is.

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

This is the thing I am pushing back against -- specifically how some people weaponize that feeling for clicks, backers and sales of products that don't really do what's promised. The only thing more ubiquitous than a D&D influencer-grifter is a fitness one IMO.

I would actually be really interested in knowing why organ meat became "gross" in American food culture. I grew up without a lot of money and we raised our own pigs for food as well as a steer once. We ate EVERYTHING.

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

This. I mean, it was a rant. Of course measured discussion will reveal naunce and differing opinions. Which is fine. Awesome even. There is a lot of good GMing advice out there. As I meantioned, Coville and Di are both good communicators of the game and very helpfuyl, without descending into...

Not in the context of the thread, and of the rant. But, hey, who doesn't love a good semantics argument. I'm all ears! (or is it eyes, since we are reading?)
