A friend introduced me to D&D sometime between 1980 and 1981. The closest place was a hobby shop (model trains, war games, D&D) that was a 30 min bike ride. Later you could find stuff at Sears. Later still it was comic shops, dedicated gaming stores, and big bookstore chains.

NOBODY is suggesting that it equals PORN. People are suggesting that it doesn't look realistic. That's very different.

That's been an issue for the last two decades. I believe TTRPGs scratch a different gaming itch than CRPGs, and I think products like the 5e Starter Set and PF Beginner Box do help.

If I was able to figure out D&D enough to play back in the day, then I'm pretty sure kids can figure out a free Basic D&D pdf nowadays. Honestly, when I think back to my early days. We were playing D&D, but not by RAW. The bits of rules we didn't understand we just glossed over or came up...

I didn't read a lot of Dragon during 2e. I spent most of the 2e era playing other games and getting into different kinds of fun. I came back to D&D for 3e.

Oh... remember the issues of Dragon that came with a whole mini board game? I loved those! Stuff like Echohawk's Monster Encyclopedia would be awesome in Dragon, especially if it was accompanied by a revamped Ecology column.

Like Agamon above, I feel Dragon is at its best in the pieces that are fluff heavy. Sure, there is probably no getting around system mechanical bits making their way into Dragon, but I would much rather that be the exception than the norm. And if they do make it into the magazine, I would...

I don't want Dragon turned into the monthly crunch book. That's what it essentially turned into during 4e (and yes, I'm still a DDI subscriber, mostly for the tools). If Dragon is resurrected make into a magazine that's worth reading. If I never see a new feat in Dragon it will be too soon.
