D&D 4E Mike Mearls on how 4E could have looked

The first roll is CLEARLY described as just "the initial grab", as you put it. You are describing a *BETTER* way of doing it. But the text isn't even ambiguous. The text directly contradicts you. And now you are contradicting yourself. If the DC takes the monster into account, then you...

That may be. I can't disprove that it is in the writing. But I don't believe it. I think they truly intended it to be this way.

D&D 4E Mike Mearls on how 4E could have looked

It says "If she makes that check, she gets a hold on the chandelier and swings to the ogre." Then it says "Then comes the kicking.". You are not accurately describing the content as presented in the book. The book CLEARLY states that part (1) is about the grabbing and swinging. Your...

D&D 4E Mike Mearls on how 4E could have looked

Completely irrelevant. If the rogue had been trying to swing from the exact same chandelier at a L25 fighter half-demon ogre, the relevant portion of the example would not have changed. The example gives three parts: 1) Swinging from the chandelier. The character level all the matters. The...

D&D 4E Mike Mearls on how 4E could have looked

Page 42 of the DMG gives an example involving swinging on a chandelier and clearly demonstrates that the DC of this task is a function of the character's level and has nothing to do with the chandelier. According to the DMG a higher level character would need a higher check to swing from that...

D&D 4E Mike Mearls on how 4E could have looked

Can you show me these many? I don't think you can. I think you are in this place completely guilty of doing what 4E fans routinely accuse its critics of. That being, you are calling out one thing and then framing that as how "those guys" do things. "Natural Armor" is a HUUUGE handwave. Big...

D&D 5E (2014) What DM flaw has caused you to actually leave a game?

wasn't a typo :) levels are abstract but discrete steps

D&D 5E (2014) What DM flaw has caused you to actually leave a game?

A thousand times: THIS XP are the default mechanic for establishing a reasonable time to quantum up. They work fine as a meta-mechanic. But get really awkward when viewed as a simulation of anything and even worse when applied off-screen

Pathfinder 2E biggest issue with PF2 playtest

Meh, I don't know. Do you think swapping regeneration is a hit against the system? I really like engine and the chassis, I just like to redecorate. I mean, I probably hate the idea of Diablo "runes" more than I dislike the +level. But it is a no-brainer to me that you could swap that out in...

Pathfinder 2E biggest issue with PF2 playtest

How about yes / yes / no I really do believe there is a large space between opposed to leaving 1E and opposed to leaving *the spirit of 1E". I'm way onboard with moving on. It really isn't 6 or 7 years, overall it is truly going on 18 years. I've got a fair number of houserules to...

Bulmahn on Pathfinder 2's Goblin Ancestry

FWIW, I think Vic's comments are pretty carefully stated. Goblins will be in the playtest and they will ultimately be in PF2. But clearly that statement allows for them being pushed out to a supplement not unlike their current existence in the Advanced Race Guide. Which isn't to claim he is...

RPG Evolution: Do We Still Need "Race" in D&D?

First you put words in my mouth, now you tell me you know more about how my game works than I do. It used to be fun. But now it is just creepy and I feel sorry for you.

RPG Evolution: Do We Still Need "Race" in D&D?

Heh, I'm not going to get dragged back into your age old battle-lost delusions. I've been doing Medusa correct to the myth for decades. You are the one with the longstanding record of putting words in other people's mouths. Hell, I haven't engaged with you for what, a year? And you bring me...
