D&D 5E (2014) Wanting more content doesn't always equate to wanting tons of splat options so please stop.

Note that simply paying attention to the rest of my post would address your reply. If the best reply you can muster is to call the blatant rhetorical hyperbole out as hyperbole, then that speaks to the depth of your position.

I don't remotely believe that too many supplements hurt sales. I do believe that poor quality supplements and/or supplements that don't consider poor interactions add a non-zero negative weight on the gaming community perception of a system. Time is the real enemy. It is easy to look at the...

D&D 5E (2014) Wanting more content doesn't always equate to wanting tons of splat options so please stop.

ok um, ok. I guess "slow" is a subjective term, so, yeah, ok. The amount of content coming out is vastly "slower" than PF or was for 3E. Good/bad/whatever; it simply is. RPGs are complex. But, again, this is a subjective term. Since you have directed this statement at me I'm going to infer...

OK I'm not sure what your point really is or what I've said that you are disputing. For what its worth, I'm still convinced that WotC's choice to produce so little content has absolutely nothing to do with the reasoning you presented. It has been demonstrated that you can sell a very steady...

Obviously. At the end of the day we should simply acknowledge that there are games that taken in total appeal to a lot of people. And those games need not overlap very much. As long as the game meets the "big appeal" it is good.

D&D 5E (2014) Wanting more content doesn't always equate to wanting tons of splat options so please stop.

Heh. My 5E game was certainly highly house-ruled as-is. And one might argue that it was not a fair shake because of that. But I made it *more* complex, so I'm certain without that I would have burned out more quickly. As to mastery, my sincere but unsolicited advice is: first play what you...

No argument from me. I can do the math in my head, I actually enjoy that. And it adds value. Clearly a lot of people see it each way. ("a lot" being a reasonable generalization within the context of the overall TTRPG marketplace based on the market persistence of various games)

If meaningless anecdotes offend your sensibilities, please be advised to skip this post. My group has switched back to Pathfinder. I led that change, but the votes were two in favor, two don't care either way, and zero for stay with 5E. We played 5E for right at two years. We had a lot of fun...

    D&D 5E (2014) What am I missing?

Agreed that finesse and experience are important on the DMing side. I consider 5E RAW a great beginner game, that also include all kinds of open slots to readily complicate it to personal comfort level and taste.

    D&D 5E (2014) What am I missing?

Fair enough!! :) Yep, I agree with that. And kudos to WotC for making a game that is so readily adaptable from a baseline to numerous different approaches. Though I do wish they would coach that idea more. There seems to be a significant number of people sticking to vanilla and not...

    D&D 5E (2014) What am I missing?

I rather strongly disagree with this generalization and evaluation. Which is not to say that I have the slightest dispute with your personal preference. But I think using your statement as a truism puts a bad restraint on the level of fun that can be had. "Being" the monk running around...

    D&D 3.x Thoughts of a 3E/4E powergamer on starting to play 5E

You don't seem to really be making a point here. Yes, I strongly agree that 3E and 4E are both highly distinct games far removed from prior editions. And I'd agree with the subjective assessment that 5E is closer to prior editions than either. But my point was very much that *magnitude of...

    D&D 3.x Thoughts of a 3E/4E powergamer on starting to play 5E

Well, ok, but my context didn't presume that 4E truly had those merits, just that those terms were barbs used in the edition warz. Your reply stated that 5E had them less, I disagree with that premise.

    D&D 3.x Thoughts of a 3E/4E powergamer on starting to play 5E

Again, the nose count would be unlikely to agree with this. It is silly to assume that "change" == "change and progress". And none of that addresses the real point, which was that hostility and how one reacts to change have everything to do with perspective no matter how much an individual...

    D&D 3.x Thoughts of a 3E/4E powergamer on starting to play 5E

Meaning a simple nose count of who thought who was "hostile" would not go in favor of 4E fans. Which doesn't make them right or wrong. But does show that one should question the implicit bias of anyone claiming "hostility". I see a whole lot less declarations that you simply fear change and...

    D&D 3.x Thoughts of a 3E/4E powergamer on starting to play 5E

Fair enough. Has it changed your perspective on people who were unhappy with 4E?

So this may be constructive, being as you don't seem content with any form of response.... Everything you complain about with regard to 5E was complained about by a lot of people with regard to 4E. How would you constructively and persuasively answer your own questions to someone how felt that...

D&D 5E (2014) Is it houseruling to let a torch set fire to things?

Torches don't set fire to things. People do.

    D&D 3.x Thoughts of a 3E/4E powergamer on starting to play 5E

I'd say this point strongly exposes the issue of preconceptions on the conversation. Again, system vs. DM judgement is huge. But the preconception of how much control a DM should have in a TTRPG which appeals to the widest mass of players ("the big tent") is critically important. The OP is...
