D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

I think definite parallels with Laurana and Alhana against Luthien, Arwen and Galadriel, though I prefer Tolkiens descriptive language, and I don't think Tolkiens elves were as elitist as the Dragonlance ones, which are particularly so (but true of all the races, each race seems quite xenophobic).

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

I think Mambas point was that Mamba would be happy with a trimmed down version, so no Disks etc, that would still tell core of story but without mirroring so precisely a certain religion.

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

But this is after already meeting Lauranas brother, the speaker, many other elves that didnt trigger that response, only Laurana because she is more beautiful than the norm. So doesn't seem like elves being elves, just someone particularly beautiful impacting on others. Also based on passage...

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

I think the biggest danger for shows is apathy. There is often unfortunately review bombing by those who have an agenda, as while can expect some negative reviews from people who may not like a show, I also feel rightly or wrongly that if you bounce off a show after 1 episode, it is clear it...

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 5th Edition Is Coming in 2026

Having semi recently got a number of 4e books, and having starter set on shelf that js only starter set yet to be played, I'm hoping it is a tidy up and bringing rules from likes of Up in Arms and Winds of Magic into core book to save having to switch back and forth, and that easy enough to use...

Do you "roleplay" in non-TTRPG Games?

I have yes, but find depends on the game, and for board and card games find it easier when playing cooperative games than competitive games, where trying to win can override it, though I find this less so for computer games. Board games I've role played in: Arkham Horror 2e. Witches! Unicornus...

What are you reading in 2025?

Been a long time since read Dracula, but main takeaway i still remember from it is that Van Helsing seemed pretty bad at his job, and that to my mind it is his fault Lucy became a vampire, and I just felt sorry for Lucy.

    Fabula Ultima general thread [+]

Sounds like my favourite JRPG series Trails (particularly of cold steel) would fall under techno fantasy if I read this right. Not sure if dragon quest xi would be natural or high. Does sound like this would be good system though for playing games that evoke the feel of the aforementioned...

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

I dont think point is that sales means design is good as such. Ultimately I reject what I think is your underlying premise, that a better designed game would perform as well or better. I think in many spaces, whether books, movies, video games, it isn't the best designed /written / directed...

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

I can sort of see that, maybe I'm just more optimistic / generous in my reading of posts :)

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

Just additional point, I think if Micah had said above a different response may have come, but Micah said reducing mechanical workload on DM is moving away from their preference, which seems clear that he doesn't want any further reduction (and may want increased workload), and that any risk of...

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

I can't see / recall Aldarcs original post before edit. As it stands though, i said in my post that a possibility was that Micah was happy with current levels, and didnt want to push any further in one direction. In Aldarcs current edit, he doesn't say that Micah must prefer this, that, the...

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

All Aldarc did was list what he thought made dor what comes through in modern mechanics, as relates to the OP. You then came in with an opinion on the list in terms of what mechanics you prefer / like (which Aldarc never an opinion on for you to 'go after', and not so relating to the OP) , so I...

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

I didnt take Aldarcs stateme as trying for a gotcha, but to try and understand / confirm what style of gaming you like. If in a list of things that new mechanics are heading for, you dont like most, it does suggest you prefer the inverse. It may be more that you were comfortable with the level...

What are you reading in 2025?

Well, after my earlier confusion, have now read a Memory called Empire as well. Not as heavy as Fifth Season in terms of themes and events, but very engrossing and harder to put down. Raced through it, but very strong book with its own questions and reflections on different cultures and what...

Fabula Ultima Hardback & Bestiary Vol. 1 Kickstarter

I was long time CRPG player, and still play them, but have more recently (if can count 5 years ago as rexent) played some JRPGs. Ones I've enjoyed are Dragon Quest XI and the legends of heroes trails series. They've just done a remaster of the first game (Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter) which...

The 3e campaign book. Silver Marches (3e). Serpent Kingoms. The three of these lef to many great ideas to keep a sandbox campaign going for years.

Fans of long series of big novels, sound off!

Ones I've enjoyed, in no particular order as quite different series: Malazan book of the fallen and various spinoffs by Ericson and Esslemont. Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. Chronicles of Black Company by Glen Cook. The Pern novels by Anne McAffrey. First Law series by Abercombie. Terry...
