It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard.

Thanks for all that - makes it clearer to me, and I certainly have no issues with your stance, just previously the different factors were getting conflated for me at least when trying to understand your posts, and hence my confusion. For some people, they may have been happy with Spelljammer...

It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard.

I don't see how it is blindly trusting to say hey, they've backed out on what they were going to do, so I'm happy to buy products from them again because they are of value to me, and if they do stuff in future I don't like, I may stop buying again. And again, the CC license / OGL seems...

It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard.

While I agree with main point, that corporations if want us to buy from them, need to provide a product we want / think is worth the price they are charging for, I am a little confused and possibly just haven't followed the converstaion well enough. Where I'm confused, is what has removed the...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

I agree , I just thought that the absence of this statement in the PHB etc would counter what FrogReaver was asserting.

    D&D Movie/TV There's A New Trailer For D&D: Honor Among Thieves

Ah, fair enough - these have flown under my radar :) Except for His Dark Materials, but really didn't enjoy the book, so certainly wasn't interested in watching an adaptation. Nonetheless I thought His Dark Materials may be more well known than Pathfinder, with 17.5 million copies sold...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

But with this bit bolded earlier: You must affix such a notice to any Open Game Content that you Use. Given that the PHB contains content that is in the SRD, doesn't that mean that triggers this piece by the logic FrogReaver is outlining? If WOTC is somehow making itself a licensee to the OGL...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

But if they aren't including the notice in the PHB, MM or DMG that have OGC in it, is it correct that then they aren't abiding by section 2?

    D&D Movie/TV There's A New Trailer For D&D: Honor Among Thieves

I'm curious which book series you're thinking about here - may be ones I've completely missed somehow :) Main ones I'm thinking of for show adaptations at least, outside of Rings of Power, are Wheel of Time and Game of Thrones, and I have difficulty imagining Pathfinder is more well known...

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

My understanding of Permeton's point though is that even if WOTC does do that - if a few years down the track they still look to withdraw their offer / pull their content from the license and say no one can use their content anymore - we hit the same situation, and if no one is willing to spend...

WotC Unveils Draft of New Open Gaming License

For me it is looking a lot better, but I would really want 2 more changes: Prior SRDs also added to the license (3.5 etc) The clause about harassment / obscene etc content should go to some third party, or at least have some ability to appeal to a third party rather than solely under WOTC's...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

Seems a bit ironic posting this in a thread where lawyers are giving their views, and people are generally accepting that the lawyers likely have a better opinion of the legal situation - whereas what you're saying above suggests their opinion shouldn't have any more weight than any other person...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

I could be wrong, but I think Hussar is saying would be worse than today's market, as in today's market 3PP can at least have multi million dollar kickstarters playing in the 5e space, and players can get a wide variety of content. Whereas a potential future is no 3PP for 5e / One D&D, so...

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

Yeah, I agree, you'd have to be really keen and want all material, certainly wouldn't be enough I'm interested in to warrant that - tends to be one book a year sort of thing. But I am aware of similar stuff with computer games and the like, subscribe to unlock all DLC type thing, like Paradox...

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

possibly if $30 unlocked all content, and new books automatically went to you without having to buy them, maybe it would get to that sort of value, but I can only see that for one person in a group. I'm one currently not planning to stop using DNDBeyond, as the content sharing and characters...

What are you reading in 2023?

Reading 2 series at the moment - rereading the main series from the Aeon 14 books by M D Cooper, and going back through the Horus Heresy to catch up to where I got to years ago, and then have the fun of reading after Legacies of Betrayal for the first time. Will take a while, only up to Nemesis...

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

Re Vtt, their press release says the OGL won't cover VTT, so not sure that lines up. Outside of that, if they do their own VTT, they don't need to kill the OGL to prevent other content on there, they can just not allow it on there. If you meant they didn't want other VTTs out there with...

Oh I agree, but their statement had that feel nonetheless.

D&D Beyond Twitter Account says OGL will be addressed soon

I don't know, probably used to everything in the gaming space, especially with the Soon TM stuff, but I'm used to soon being easily a few weeks.....

What's All This About The OGL Going Away?

My view is probably coloured by only getting D&D news from Enworld, and reading community posts there. So what I saw initially was this: https://www.enworld.org/threads/rumor-ogl-will-not-be-supported-starting-with-one-d-d.693091/ From 11th November, with a lot of speculation as to whether...

What's All This About The OGL Going Away?

I could be wrong, but didn't it start more or less out of nowhere, with a youtuber saying they heard the OGL was going away, before any time of questions being raised to WOTC for them to dodge - it was only after the video came out that people started asking WOTC questions.
