Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

If a thousand word post isn't getting the point across that you want to get across, going to two thousand word posts instead isn't likely to help

California bill (AB 412) would effectively ban open-source generative AI

Well yeah, shouldn't rely on Wikipedia, but I would trust Wikipedia more than ChatGPT.

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

Fair enough, and as I reflect your previous threads etc on burning wheel also support that it is very much a stakes driven game, and tightly written to support that, and while a specific question may be a yes one time, and roll the dice I another similar situation, that would only be because the...

Isn't Burning Wheel 'say yes or roll the dice' which is similar idea, if don't feel anything at stake, say yes, otherwise roll the dice. But the DM may approach it differently as to whether a situation should be yes or not depending on nature of campaign/ how approaching it.

They are connected, but are distinct. Dnd has one set of procedures for resolving actions. However, whether I'm playing a railroad or playing a sandbox will change which procedures I'm applying when, and so how i respond to player choices will vary. I put an example in the other thread I think...

What Video Game RPG System Do You Want to See Adapted to Tabletop

I always thought the Exile / Avernum / Geneforge series would make for good TTRPGs but not sure how much is their mechanics vs the world's.

I usually respect a lot of your posts, but here Faolyn clearly stated that Hussar said that Ironsworn was better for sandbox games, you say here Hussar didn't, people provide plenty of examples where Hussar did say that Ironsworn is better for sandbox games, and now you're saying that the claim...

I think we as a group have tended towards traditional, but have been branching put a lot lately, and playing games like 2d20 systems or FFGs systems are giving a taste of metacurrencies and giving players more control over the system, so they may be open to it.

You make a good point there, I hadn't really considered 4x games as sandbox games before (tend to think of it for more low character number based games), but they do allow for a lot of freedom of choice, and a good number of AI parties that will do their own thing that you can interact with...

Certainly if creating own world, it would take a lot of time, albeit the campaigns themselves may help flesh it out. That is why I relied on forgotten realms when doing sandbox, as most of work was done for me and i could just reference the many 3rd edition supplements they had filled out to...

And in minecraft, in players want to go to the End to fight the Ender dragon, there are linear steps they have to go through, so I guess Minecraft isn't a sandbox game, just a game of various linear paths players can choose from.

Depends on the players, I've had ones that are quite easily distracted, and will pivot to next thing that takes their interest. Like doing a sci fi game, where pretended to be in a band to get to something, but then really enjoyed band experience so shortly afterwards looked at whether could...

But does that assume they stay the course, and don't opt to do something else once find out where portal is or once get to Nexus? They may opt to never go on the Spell jammer?

D&D General Sandbox and/or/vs Linear campaigns

For me to contrast what I feel is a sandbox campaign to one that isn't: Shadow of a Dark Queen (ran through recently and we enjoyed it) - heading towards full on railroad, start off traveling to a village for given reasons, if cleric or arcane spellcsster in party have a couple of interludes...

2d20 Heroes of Might and Magic RPG from Ubisoft and Modiphius

Will need to dig into the quickstarter to get good feel of it, though helps ive used the 2d20 system before. Interestingly I kept getting tripped up and confusing the setting with the setting from the Warlords setting (where is the Sirian and Orcs of Kor flags?) But on plus side i think the...

See, it is bits like this that feel to me that you are coming across as confrontational, and ignoring anything people are telling you, but you then complain that others are confrontational when using statements similar to yours. Sandbox as a term isn't pretentious, it is a way of describing a...

I believe Mamba is talking about non enworld publishers- Morrus is releasing using all 3, which then allows us to see which of the 3 other 3pp use when releasing levelup material based on the level up SRDs.
