    D&D 5E (2014) The Printers Can't Handle WotC's One D&D Print Runs!

And they are making less per book every year because of inflation. How many more years can they keep selling books before they start losing money on every book sold. I don't care how many books you sell, if you are losing money on each sale, you are never going to make money on volume...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Printers Can't Handle WotC's One D&D Print Runs!

No , don't you see. Literally everything else in the world is is getting more expensive because of inflation, but WotC raising there prices (at a lower rate than inflation) is obviously a sign they are trying to rip us off, there is no possible other explanation.

Where are you getting "surprisingly ambivalent" from? You think they aren't trying to sell books? Details Please.

D&D 5E (2024) Jeremy Crawford: “We are releasing new editions of the books”

Ok. Nobody said they did. What sinister things do you think WotC is trying to do to make money? All I see is WotC revising their popular game in a way that they think will please the largest majority of their audience, and that they think will bring in the most new players. What exactly are...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Printers Can't Handle WotC's One D&D Print Runs!

I don't need video chat, but I want it. Being able to look people in the eye and actually read their facial expression is a lot more immersive and fulfilling. A vtt map and voice chat is ok for combat, but voice only really hampers roleplaying. If online play is going to compete with in...

Yep, that wasn't hyperbole. I was just putting things in perspective. 5e really is a run away success.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Printers Can't Handle WotC's One D&D Print Runs!

There is a big difference between playing Magic online and playing D&D. Magic online is basically just an online card game, while D&D requires half a dozen people to simultaneously live stream video. We have had reliable online card games for literally decades. Live streaming video requires...

D&D 5E (2024) Jeremy Crawford: “We are releasing new editions of the books”

Why is a company doing something for financially motivated reasons so offensive to you? Why is it such a bad idea that a company chooses to do something to make money? That is literally the reason businesses exist in the first place. If they don't make money, the go out of business and all...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Printers Can't Handle WotC's One D&D Print Runs!

When we tried playing online with roll20, a couple years after 5e came out, I think my group spent dozens of hours trying to get it to work smoothly, and we had several programmers and IT professionals in the group.

That isn't going to help with the 5e books people already own. It also seems like a lot of hoops to jump through when they could just call it 5e and not have to do anything.

D&D 5E (2024) Jeremy Crawford: “We are releasing new editions of the books”

All of TSR naming decisions for their various editions has mostly been based around screwing other authors out of their share of the credit and royalties. Including when Gary created Advanced D&D to screw over Dave Arneson. TSR created some great games, but it was basically a-holes all the...

D&D 5E (2024) Jeremy Crawford: “We are releasing new editions of the books”

Because after 10 years they see some rough patches and want to update them, while still using the same core rule and being compatible with all of the 5e books and adventures they have already released. D&D naming conventions have never been consistant for 50 years. What ever name they choose...

D&D 5E (2024) Jeremy Crawford: “We are releasing new editions of the books”

Plenty of people have expressed why we don't want 1D&D called a new edition. Mostly because a new edition implies that the old book are not combatable with the new one. If you can run a 1D&D adventure using 5e books, it is not a new edition. If you can run a 5e adventure using the 1D&D book...

D&D 5E (2024) Jeremy Crawford: “We are releasing new editions of the books”

You need to remember that we are a tiny minority of players who actually go online to discuss D&D. The vast majority of players just show up and play the game. They are not constantly discussing the game online like we are on this forum. It is just not an issues for most groups, because...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Printers Can't Handle WotC's One D&D Print Runs!

RPG's are a table top game, they don't require a computer at all, and lets be honest up until a few years ago trying to play remotely online, really sucked. There were virtual tabletops like fantasy grounds and roll20, and while they worked, they were all really tedious and complicated to use...

D&D 5E (2024) Jeremy Crawford: “We are releasing new editions of the books”

WotC used the .5 edition model once over 20 years ago. Why should that be the default naming convention? There have been over a dozen different "Editions" of d&d so far, why should the naming convention from 2003 be the default. Why not use 6E? The changes from 1e to 2e where very similar in...

D&D 5E (2024) Jeremy Crawford: “We are releasing new editions of the books”

Is there? Or is it that it really doesn't matter, and most people don't really care, and are just going to call it what WotC does. The only people who really seam to care are people who are already angry with WotC, and are looking for reasons to call them liars.

If you had only played 1 of those 3 editions and had no idea how the others worked, there is no way you would just figure it out. Look at casting a fireball in the 3 editions. In 3.5 creatures are making a reflex saving throw against you spell DC(Scaling with the level of the spell slot used)...
