when I was a DM back in the Stone Age, I used to have one player keep a record of all the loot found in an adventure, and another one keep track of monsters killed... then I could just ask for the latter list and tally up XP, and the players could divide the loot...

D&D has always struggled a bit with neutral dragons... the gem dragons, the oriental dragons from the FF, the 'vapor' dragons from the MM2... none of them ever really caught on...

by 2000, I'd been out of gaming for a while, my job moved me around a lot, couldn't stay in a group... just had no incentive to keep going to cons. Also, I got tired really fast of the 'go online 3 seconds after it opens to register, or you won't get into any events you want'....

well, I have no idea just who all did what in developing the D&D game, but... I do have that 'First Fantasy Campaign' JG book by Arneson, and if that is an example of his writing... it's probably a good thing that Gygax took over...

in the end though, it has to generate more sales. A 30 second ad is reusable, can run for weeks. FoL was a one shot flash in the pan; it came, it went, it's done. I suppose if the goal was to generate some PR in the rather small TTRPG crowd, it did that. Now we'll see if anyone else tries...

not sure if FoL actually did anything for Wendys sales... I suppose that would be the deciding factor. If yes, then lots of copying. If no, then it's doubtful. Considering that FoL was a free downloadable product with no associated merchandise, then it was pretty much a stunt. One thing...

video games, sure... they are immensely popular. TTRPGs? I wonder if anyone will bother to follow in FoL's footsteps... FoL came and went and is done with, and had little fanfare before or after (hell, I work for Wendys, and I had no idea it was coming). It was pretty much a one-shot stunt.

well, whether Feast of Legends was a good idea or not... I have to wonder if the speculation on this will go anywhere.... is any other non-RPG business looking to do something like this? It's not like FoL really went anywhere or caused any great shake up in the world...

that was a good idea. There are WoG fans who like the GWs, and others who don't. Sounds like this supplement can cater to either of them...

The Hobbit was part of the reading list for the Modern Novel class I took in high school.... which led to LOTR, Conan, Tarzan, assorted fantasy novels, and ultimately D&D. Was always so glad I took the Novel class instead of woodshop....
