D&D General Help w/ Party Loot Tracking

when I was a DM back in the Stone Age, I used to have one player keep a record of all the loot found in an adventure, and another one keep track of monsters killed... then I could just ask for the latter list and tally up XP, and the players could divide the loot...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Gem Dragons Are Officially Back

D&D has always struggled a bit with neutral dragons... the gem dragons, the oriental dragons from the FF, the 'vapor' dragons from the MM2... none of them ever really caught on...

    D&D General The Sales of D&D vs. AD&D vs. AD&D 2nd Edition

eh... it was a mixed bag. Along with some pretty good stuff, there were some real dogs. Remember 'Puppets'? Or the Falcon trilogy? I personally wasn't a fan of the whole Greyhawk Wars thing, so every module related to it didn't appeal to me... with the exception of the Scarlet Brotherhood...

    D&D General The Sales of D&D vs. AD&D vs. AD&D 2nd Edition

so, my story. Way back in 1980, middle of my college years, I first ran across D&D, attracted to it mainly by a huge display of miniatures in a store in the mall. Not knowing anything about the editions, I first bought the Basic "Blue Box" just to figure out what it was all about... and went...

D&D General Time period of the City of Greyhawk box set?

before. In fact, some of the info in CoG is updated in the Greyhawk City booklet in "From the Ashes". If you can't find the original boxed set anywhere, you can get it in booklet or PDF from from DTRPG; be advised that the maps are all chopped up in the former though...

    D&D General The Sales of D&D vs. AD&D vs. AD&D 2nd Edition

by 2000, I'd been out of gaming for a while, my job moved me around a lot, couldn't stay in a group... just had no incentive to keep going to cons. Also, I got tired really fast of the 'go online 3 seconds after it opens to register, or you won't get into any events you want'....

    D&D General The Sales of D&D vs. AD&D vs. AD&D 2nd Edition

yeah. The last time I went to Gencon in 2000, I felt the same way... never did return. That said, I've been looking around at upcoming conventions in CO and here in Cheyenne.... not having been to a gaming convention in 20 years, I thought it would be fun to attend one again...

OD&D Evidence Chainmail Had Material from Dave Arneson

well, I have no idea just who all did what in developing the D&D game, but... I do have that 'First Fantasy Campaign' JG book by Arneson, and if that is an example of his writing... it's probably a good thing that Gygax took over...

    When Brands Play Games

in the end though, it has to generate more sales. A 30 second ad is reusable, can run for weeks. FoL was a one shot flash in the pan; it came, it went, it's done. I suppose if the goal was to generate some PR in the rather small TTRPG crowd, it did that. Now we'll see if anyone else tries...

    When Brands Play Games

not sure if FoL actually did anything for Wendys sales... I suppose that would be the deciding factor. If yes, then lots of copying. If no, then it's doubtful. Considering that FoL was a free downloadable product with no associated merchandise, then it was pretty much a stunt. One thing...

    When Brands Play Games

video games, sure... they are immensely popular. TTRPGs? I wonder if anyone will bother to follow in FoL's footsteps... FoL came and went and is done with, and had little fanfare before or after (hell, I work for Wendys, and I had no idea it was coming). It was pretty much a one-shot stunt.

okay, see what you mean. Yep, definitely pre-Wars....

How so? (don't have the GoS book)....

    When Brands Play Games

well, whether Feast of Legends was a good idea or not... I have to wonder if the speculation on this will go anywhere.... is any other non-RPG business looking to do something like this? It's not like FoL really went anywhere or caused any great shake up in the world...

D&D 5E (2014) Ghosts of Saltmarsh: Pre or Post GHW?

that was a good idea. There are WoG fans who like the GWs, and others who don't. Sounds like this supplement can cater to either of them...

TSR Jim Ward: Demons & Devils, NOT!

The Hobbit was part of the reading list for the Modern Novel class I took in high school.... which led to LOTR, Conan, Tarzan, assorted fantasy novels, and ultimately D&D. Was always so glad I took the Novel class instead of woodshop....

TSR Jim Ward: Demons & Devils, NOT!

I started playing D&D in college in 1980, and saw the rise and fall of the whole Satanic Panic thing. Weirdly enough, even though I lived in a small very conservative MT town, I never got a bit of grief over it. There was even an annual convention in various places in MT that never drew any...

D&D General WotC Asks What Makes YOU Play Dungeons and Dragons?

maybe they think you buy illicit characters from shady dealers in dark alleys. "PSSST! Hey, buddy! Got some primo PCs right here for ya, on sale cheap!"

D&D General From the Freelancing Frontline: The Beginning

I got my foot in the door in Dungeon through kind of a roundabout way, by submitting a proposal for a module to TSR before there even was a Dungeon magazine (back in those days, any schmoe could submit a module proposal... and I was one of them!). It got punted over to Roger Moore, who...

D&D General From the Freelancing Frontline: The Beginning

it's been a while, but IIRC, Dungeon paid a bit better than Dragon on average, due to the maps. My own writing career for TSR's magazines ranged from 'mid 1E days before there even was a Dungeon Adventures' through 'right before 3E came out'. By that time, I was long out of gaming, and had no...
