D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

Your student is still focused on techniques of her specialty, though. She isn't a sprinter learning rugby and basketball in order to be a better sprinter. She's a sprinter learning new sprinting techniques. Being a general DM isn't the same as being a D&D DM. The new techniques you learn...

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

3e is way better for not being bored than 2e ever could be. You could play a different class/prestige class combo every year and you'd die of old age before getting close to playing them all. Same with feats, spells, monsters, and more. And, you can play 5 years Dark Sun, 5 years Ravenloft...

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

You can learn all things about running that one system and master those things better than someone who spreads out his learning over multiple systems. There will be techniques used in other systems that can be brought over to D&D and used, even if they weren't intended for use with D&D. For...

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

Spreading out your knowledge helps you become a better generalist. You'll have skills that fall outside of the specialty to use, and that can be good. However, your skill at any one specific thing isn't going to be nearly as good as a specialist. If you are just going in for a check-up, you...

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

More effort doesn't equate to hard. Hard is synonymous with difficult, problematic, complicated, complex, etc. If there's no chance of failure, it wasn't hard to do, even if effort was involved. At least the way I see the word hard most commonly used. I can't remember the last time I saw...

Right. People are talking about broad learning being good, and it is. It does help you be better. So does narrow focus, though. Focused repetition and mastery of a skill also helps you be better. Neither way is objectively better than the other, either. It's simply a matter of which way you...

    D&D 5E (2024) Preferences in a New Official 5.5e Specific Setting

Int is one of the best mechanically in my game, because the lore skills play prominent roles when I run. Low int scores really hurt. Also see Investigation which is one of the most important skills for an adventurer. And charisma is the strongest stat out there.

Why is it hard? Success is guaranteed since there's no time limit.

D&D 5E (2024) Is 5E better because of Crawford and Perkins leaving?

And that right there is taken out of context, both within that very post(since you cut out the context) and taking into consideration the dozens of posts directly to you contradicting your claim there. You fail miserably at context dude. (waits for you to ignore context again and demand that I...

D&D 5E (2014) What is your favorite encounter site or dungeon from an official module?

Yeah. I love me my Undermountain. It's a dungeon and a location. :)

I don't know. AI seems to be able to hallucinate rules as well as a lot of players I've known over the years.

Not really. Moving 10,000 one pound rocks from one side of the road to the other takes a lot of effort, but a toddler could do it. It takes a lot of effort, but isn't at all hard to do.

D&D 5E (2014) What is your favorite encounter site or dungeon from an official module?

Ever since 2e Undermountain has taken the cake for me. Since we're 5e specific, Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage.

Do you know what context is? Because from your responses to me the answer is no. Hint: It involves...................multiple posts.

You were never told that. Your "proof" quote completely ignore the context of the conversation and all the other stuff I said to you.

And I'll point out how WotC never taught the younguns how to run high level, so there's a good chance they had a bad experience and stopped, or never started in the first place. High level has to be handled differently. Basically they sabotaged high level, saw not many people playing high...

What Does "Simulation" Mean To You? [+]

Just hit point loss that is described involving skill, rather than physical damage or getting lucky. Parrying a close call that if not parried would probably have killed you. That's a hit for damage, but the hit point loss represents skill hit points.
