D&D 5E (2024) Unconfirmed Dark Sun World Book

That's kind of my point though - I use the latest books when I run games. But if there's something I like from an older book (story-wise) I just use it. I've never had anyone notice, far or less complain that it's not current "cannon". The only cannon at the table is the cannon at the table.

D&D 5E (2024) Unconfirmed Dark Sun World Book

I always marvel at how rare that attitude is. It surprises me, because we make it all up anyhow, and we generally crib our games from various sources. AND we are always encouraged to "make the game our own". So - to me - they can't really screw up my game story-wise. They could, as they did...

D&D 5E (2024) Unconfirmed Dark Sun World Book

I mean, you could also (if you want) use the new Dark Sun book, but if it doesn't have enough slavery (or halflings eating people, or whatever) for you, just add that stuff back in the game that you run? I'll probably do that myself when I run it. I can't imagine that a 5e Darksun game that I...

D&D 5E (2024) Unconfirmed Dark Sun World Book

Sure, but killing slavers (with not one shred of guilt), freeing the slaves (with great rejoicing), and taking the slavers' stuff can be pretty darn fun.

I won't hold my breath or anything, but maybe we're moving past that now. At least, when it comes to WotC, maybe not the rest of the world.

D&D 5E (2024) Unconfirmed Dark Sun World Book

As mentioned already in this thread, the new FR books have slavery, and they were published a month or two ago.

    D&D 5E (2024) Predict WotC's 2026 D&D releases

Yeah! I mean, I get it. I want to know what's next myself, and what's after that, and what's after that! But I don't think that it's good for the business. Or ultimately, for fans, either.

    D&D 5E (2024) Predict WotC's 2026 D&D releases

I get where you're coming from, but I disagree. I think ignoring the online chatter and announcing things properly is the way to go. Take our whole "is Dark Sun coming in 2026 or not?" thread here on ENWorld. I don't think that it actually does any harm to the eventual product if they announce...

    D&D 5E (2024) Predict WotC's 2026 D&D releases

Well, that IS a big problem, but I don't think that catering to it is the solution.

    D&D 5E (2024) Predict WotC's 2026 D&D releases

I agree with you. Though that might be ultimately 'too little', what we are generally faced with these days is the opposite - far 'too much'. We get told about movies, TV shows, games, and (to a lesser extent) comics so far ahead of time, that by the time they arrive, no one is talking about...

    D&D 5E (2024) Predict WotC's 2026 D&D releases

It honestly would be better for the industry (just not for us over-eager fans) if they left announcing stuff until 8-10 weeks before it ships. Which is pretty close to when it would need to be sent to the printers. There's a reason why that is how things used to be done. For decades.

    D&D 5E (2024) Predict WotC's 2026 D&D releases

Because of how long it has been, or just in general? I would think that the contents of any given announcement would make the difference, but YMMV.

They could, but I don't think that they will. I expect that we'll see a presentation of some sort in mid-to-late January for something in April or May, with maybe hints for later books.

D&D 5E (2024) The Black Road - Help me flesh out an Adventure idea.

Thanks for that. It encourages me that I am on to something that will make for a good game.

D&D 5E (2024) The Black Road - Help me flesh out an Adventure idea.

I think I may use A5e (and other sources) concept of the "Safe Haven" when it comes to Long Rests. For those who are unfamiliar, the basic idea is that you can't get Long Rests (at least, not the ones in the PHB with everything returning) unless you are at a good, comfortable, safe location...

D&D 5E (2024) The Black Road - Help me flesh out an Adventure idea.

That's all great stuff! Yes, having only a few select items go the whole journey makes good sense - both logistically, and as inspiration for adventure! The Goldenfields grain could be only going as far as Parnast. Also, much of it could be in the form of "Golden Gulp" (the local wheat ale)...

D&D 5E (2024) The Black Road - Help me flesh out an Adventure idea.

I've been planning to run an D&D.24 Adventure at my FLGS. There will be a mix of new and old players, of varying ages and backgrounds. It will probably be multiple tables, as well. At any rate, I was thinking to run stuff from the new Forgotten Realms books, with the idea that I'd call it...

D&D 5E (2024) What 2024 class have you played the most

I'm not sure I've played much more than 20 characters either, and I've played for 40 years across 9 rules revisions. I've made hundreds of characters who have been played by other people, though! As you can guess, I mostly DM, and often for new players.

Tell me about the RPG section of your local game store

It's probably the reason that you can't find it at an FLGS - they would have to pay more shipping than their margin, so unless they jack the price (probably beyond what would seem reasonable) they wouldn't make any money.

Tell me about the RPG section of your local game store

What Morris says above is what I mean by "skipping the middle-man". I get why it's attractive to publishers, but it unfortunately makes it MUCH harder for stores (in particular stores in other counties). With a distributor, the MSRP gets spread across more businesses, but so does the expenses...
