What kinds of games do you like, and why?

For boardgames, I'm really into dungeon crawlers. Like, REALLY into them. I've donated 2/3 of my collection over the years to make room, but still have a walk-in closet full of them. Darn you HeroQuest for starting this! For CCGs, I play Lorcana with my wife, but my current favorite is Sorcery...

OSR New changes are afoot for OSRIC!

OSRIC is the same way. Key difference is in Dragonslayer the rule applies to small traps too! Seems pretty small, but important distinction for me since I like my low-level Thieves to succeed in their profession. Also, it opens up the possibility of allowing for rolls despite not looking for...

OSR New changes are afoot for OSRIC!

Never liked requiring the Thief to make a die roll to actually find traps. Makes the class underwhelming at low-level thanks to the poor chance of success. Similar to OSE. Games that handle this better (IMO, of course): Castles & Crusades: Higher level of success (50% vs 20%). Dragonslayer...

OSR New changes are afoot for OSRIC!

Just saw OSRIC 3.0 Player's Guide is on Drive-Thru for free! Downloading now. Looking forward to flipping through it tonight.

How's your FLGS doing after the Diamond Comic Distributors crash?

@FitzTheRuke Thanks for the feedback. It's great to hear your store is doing well. That makes me wonder if the owners of my FLGS just don't want to bother finding another distributor (they've gone through Diamond for about 30 years I think) and happy just being a MtG store (which was making 90%...

How's your FLGS doing after the Diamond Comic Distributors crash?

I went into my small town's only Friendly Local Gaming Store (FLGS) and was surprised to see how empty it was, especially during the holidays. Employee said it was due to two factors: No longer being able to order from Diamond and needing to buy a massive amount of MtG product thanks to WotC's...

    Cookin again

Speaking of tater-tots, I haven't found a single bag that has the "real" instructions to make them right in an air fryer. 0. Purchase any brand beside Ore-Ida (Sorry fans, but they just don't make them like they used to). 1. Place frozen tots in a bowl and lightly spray with oil. Season with...

    Cookin again

A good friend of mine is from Minnesota and introduced me to hotdish (tater-tot casserole). It's been a lot of fun finding new recipes online and trying them out. Pretty hard to get a bad one honestly. Here's the one I plan to make next: Rep. Tim Walz's winning hotdish recipe

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Point Buy Balanced?

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it, but it's balanced in that it offers equal opportunity to all players to have the same stats. In 5e where one extra bonus point is the differences of 4 levels, it's my preferred method to keep things fair.

Can anyone identify the RPG books in this commercial?

That's really cool. Whoever was in charge of that shot knew what they were doing, that's for sure.

Can anyone identify the RPG books in this commercial?

I think your biggest clue is this logo. Nothing I recognize.

Can anyone identify the RPG books in this commercial?

If you set the resolution to 1080p, it's a lot easier to see that everything is 5e.

OSR Looking for OSR that specializes in exploration and eventual founding of a keep

Have some time tonight to jot down some more systems that reward exploration: Ultraviolet Grasslands - Grants XP Irownsworn (free!) - Haven't played it myself (yet), but looks like exploration is part of progressing. Can be played solo! Great review here. The One Ring - Not OSR, but worth...

OSR Looking for OSR that specializes in exploration and eventual founding of a keep

Second this if you're looking for an emphasis on players dumping all their earned gold into late game conquest with large armies. Exploration wise, it will be the same as other OSR systems, but does have a ton of detail on world building and map creation.

OSR Looking for OSR that specializes in exploration and eventual founding of a keep

I can think of a few off the top of my head, but when it comes to exploration, I don't think anything beats Forbidden Lands. Quick review I found here, if interested. Not OSR in that it's based off D&D, but certainly in its simplicity and tone. I love that the lore and major quest...

    Spoilers Pluribus

Neat article about the AI angle: https://www.inverse.com/entertainment/pluribus-ai-boyfriends-girlfriends?utm_source=firefox-newtab-en-us Makes all of those "nothing is happening" moments make a little more sense. Sigh, I'm back on the Plurbis bus again.

    Spoilers Pluribus

I think the last episode is where I get off the bus. Zero tension and the plot doesn't seem to be going anywhere. The thought that we're almost done with the season and wont be getting any more for several years really bums me out. Will certainly give it a shot later in life if it manages to...
