How Complex Do You Prefer Your TTRPG Systems In General

If it is the first few 4e books vs the core books of 2024 D&D, I think you could make the argument that 4e is simpler. Right now 2024 D&D definitely feels wonkier at the table.

D&D 5E (2024) What Rare Item to Hand Out? Lvl4

I would NOT do the +2 items, not for a lvl 4 2024 party, your just compounding your problems as a DM. +1 breastplate for the cleric would be an easy one, but might get claimed by the barbarian. Either that or a brass horn of Valhalla. Just because.

Hasbro CEO Cocks and Execs Sued for Alleged Securities Violations

Its short-termism. They pumped up the stock and flooded the market knowing that having too many cards out there will cause future demand to crash. Or so they say. Will be hard to win in court, but they might get some kind of settlement.

D&D General The $150,000 Question: How TSR Learned It Was Dying (And Why I Was in the Room) by Ken "Whit" Whitman

If you can't access Facebook, its pretty much (now) all in the OP. In any case, fits everything else we have heard about TSR's behavior at that time. Player numbers are interesting.

Wizards Hires Erin Roberts as Game Designer for D&D

3 new staff and 1 promotion? I have such a hard time remembering, but I know there has been change!

    D&D 5E (2024) Wizard vs Sorcerer (a Campaign Experience)

Familiar scouting was also a thing in 2014. (As a DM you have to remember their limits, and there are limits). 2024 Warlock with pact of the chain can get a little wild. And so can the 2024 Sorcerer. Yes innate sorcery + chromatic orb + meta magic can be very effective. Meta magic only becomes...

D&D General Hypothetical: D&D without ability scores (or bonuses)

Of course. Increase proficiency bonus by 3, so starts at +5. Have some ways (feats, class abilities) of giving smaller bonuses to nonproficient checks. But you have already seen the pushback in the thread.

    How do you define "Heartbreaker?"

If you want to joke that your self-published homebrew is a heartbreaker, thats probably OK, but otherwise it feels like a dated term. For a long time, Palladium Fantasy and Tunnels and Trolls may have been the only commercially viable altD&Ds. (and these were only so viable). Vs RQ, GURPs, or...

Daggerheart Sold Out in Two Weeks, Has Three-Year Plan in Place

Nothing was kept? It did not happen, there was nothing to keep. 4e books sales where terrible compared to 5e from the start. The source that they were so great, WotC, no one else. As for profitability? Almost certainly 5e, as it was done with a far smaller staff.

Daggerheart Sold Out in Two Weeks, Has Three-Year Plan in Place

Vague posts? That was official ENWorld news! 1 seller on Amazon. 1 seller at Publication weekly. Thats third party data! And we kept tracking Amazon, the core books staid high for months and months. You will find nothing like this for 4e. Not even close. Where are the revenue figures you keep...

Daggerheart Sold Out in Two Weeks, Has Three-Year Plan in Place

I have no idea why this came up in this thread, but yes 5e had a very strong start: https://www.enworld.org/threads/5es-initial-raw-sales-numbers-stronger-than-3es.662460/ But so did Daggerheart! Maybe that should be the focus of this thread.
