D&D 5E (2014) Dungeons of Drakkenheim: a dark fantasy sandbox in a ruined city

Very true. We already had experience of this, having skedaddled pretty rapidly from Executioner Square! It was exit, pursued by wraiths. What made this one worse was that the others flew back towards Emberwood, utilising the giant eagle polymorph, leaving my poor rogue to sneak back to Temple...

Thank you for writing such an engaging and excellent story. I have enjoyed it immensely. I wish you the very best in your writing career; you deserve success.

D&D 5E (2014) Dungeons of Drakkenheim: a dark fantasy sandbox in a ruined city

Spoiler Alert; Last weekend, we played a session of Drakkenheim where we got our butts comprehensively kicked, but it was an awesome game regardless. Having assisted the Knights of the Flame in liberating one of the gates from the beastmen/gnolls, the party shadowed the fleeing survivors back...

D&D General TSR Alum and Fantasy Author Jean Rabe Passes Away

Very sad to read this news. Jean Rabe touched many lives for the better.

    [D&D 5e 2024] Heroes of the Borderlands

Epic fight. I have really come to care about the characters, which speaks of your skills as a writer/storyteller, and of the players themselves.

What Is Your Favorite Linear Adventure/Campaign

Enemy Within is probably the champion here, but I’d also give praise to RHOD and Carrion Crown from relatively recent times. Going back further, I’m a big fan of the GDQ series and the wonderful Night Below.

    D&D 5E (2024) Predict WotC's 2026 D&D releases

Another point in favour of WPM, particularly for its time, was the wilderness map around the mountain, which encouraged the DM to flesh out adventures including bog mummies, gags and undead dragons. Of course it wasn’t perfect but I still think it’s a classic.

D&D 5E (2014) Robin of Sherwood - Avatar of Herne the Hunter

Wow! Thanks for taking the time to do these. I was walking beneath the trees of Sherwood Forest whilst reading!

Great battle scene. Zombies are tough foes.

D&D General Adventurers a distasteful necessity

I think there are two (or maybe more) types of adventurers in the context of this question. The first type are your classic adventurer trope: rough, hard-bitten mercenary types who don’t fit in with normal village society, and are challenging or even dangerous to have around. They might not be...

Do you game with other ENWorlders?

I also got to play alongside PJ from the ENWorld podcast in the campaign run by @Steampunkette I can't recall his site name, but he's both a great bloke and a superb player.

D&D General Short folk appreciation thread – what do you play?

I'm the DM for Rob in this campaign, and this personality trait is such a joy to DM. I can use the "dwarf confusion" (and even "gnome confusion" in one instance!) to create immediate tension within interactions with my NPCs. It's a really good hook.

Do you game with other ENWorlders?

I play face-to-face with @TheSword for one weekend every month, and have done so for around 20 years. It’s great because each of us gets to both DM and play during the weekend. I also play a bi-weekly remote game run by @TheSword (Enemy Within) which is excellent. I’ve also played a couple of...

    D&D General Best D&D Setting?

I don’t think there is a “best” setting because it depends too much on individual preference. My personal favourite is Greyhawk but I’m happy to play or DM in any.

Kansas City Chiefs Release Hour-Long D&D Actual Play Video

I've never run in to the "D&D is Satanic" issue, probably due to being in the UK where it was never much of an issue. Personally, I always loved both D&D and playing rugby, and never had any problems doing both. Great to see sporting role models, such as the Chiefs players, putting out D&D...

D&D 5E (2024) What 2024 class have you played the most

So far, I've only played one character in D&D 2024; a rogue in Drakkenheim. Plus I've DM-ed a party consisting of an illusionist, a cleric, a fighter and a warlock. I anticipate my next character to be either a bard or a fighter in an upcoming game.

D&D 5E (2014) What is your favorite encounter site or dungeon from an official module?

So many memorable encounters mentioned above. I always liked the dungeons beneath the Steading of the Hill Giant Chief. It included rebellious orcs, prisoners to free, a fire giant “guest worker”, hints at Eclavdra’s role and, best of all, a truly scary lost chapel to a truly dark deity...
