D&D General Baldur's Gate 3 Sells Over 20 Million Copies

Just heard that CD Project Red have recruited team from BG3 for the Witcher 4.

D&D 5E (2024) Refining Renown - adding nuance to the faction system.

Renown is a system that tracks social advancement within an organization. It’s a nice idea to give some alternative rewards and also some form of framework for working out how factions might be able to help the PCs. Problem is it isn’t very nuanced. I mentioned before I’ve been learning the...

D&D General Mechanics of starting a combat & ending a combat

That’s a really interesting idea of using the difference between resolve and superiority to boost foes! I shall have a think on that.

    D&D General Roasting the Realms

I think my main intent with all this is to shake up Shadowdale a bit. It has always felt like a retirement village for high level characters, quite literally. I want Shadowdale to feel more unresolved, less solid and reliable.

    Star Wars prequel questions

Randomly I also started a Star Wars watch. Im trying to do them in Chronological order starting with Acolyte. Just finished that, Episodes 1 & 2 and the Clone Wars animated series. Really enjoying it - Attack of the Clones aside. I’m pretty sure Palpatine wants to corrupt the republic not just...

    D&D General Roasting the Realms

I think that with all things it depends on how much it’s used. If every wizard is a fraud then it becomes cheap. Elminster is so ubiquitous he’s almost a parody. I wouldn’t suggest using every wizard this way. Same for the Knights of Myth Drannor, they’re the anti-party. I wouldn’t have other...

    D&D General Roasting the Realms

You’re kidding right? The Athar and the Godsmen don’t care about a flyspeck backwater prime like Faerun.

One player wants to play a bard. Battle of the bards!

    D&D General Roasting the Realms

I have a pretty diabolical plan with Elminster. That I’m not going to post here in case it gets back to players but happy to DM anyone who is interested. The only thing better than ungrateful villagers is arrogant rival adventuring bands. I need a way to introduce the Knights to the PCs.

    D&D General Roasting the Realms

Guy, Ryan, Pedro and Matt stop reading now. The forgotten Realms are great. They have history, high magic, fantastical locations and great organizations. I love DMing in the Realms. However it is fair to say it comes under some criticism. Chief of which is the presence of all Ed Greenwood’s...

D&D General Adventurers a distasteful necessity

The reasons are pretty well laid out in the OP. It doesn’t need to be fair ot rational. In fact superstition and fear usually isn’t. Who says the adventurers are sworn to protect? Many PCs have to be hooked with compelling reasons. Gold being one possible reason.

D&D General Adventurers a distasteful necessity

I much prefer game terms like wizard, fighter and rogue to be behind the veil as it were.

D&D General Adventurers a distasteful necessity

I think what makes an adventure scary or distasteful is only partly because of what they can do. It’s mainly what they choose to do, or are willing to do.

D&D General Adventurers a distasteful necessity

Well the truth is that other outsiders and the marginalized would be more likely to Identify with them.

D&D General Adventurers a distasteful necessity

I think this is key. The big benefit to this approach is that the NPCs that have genuine warmth and understanding towards the party become beacons that the party will really appreciate. Also worth saying that I don’t think adventurers to be hated for this approach to work. Feared, mistrusted or...
