Friday Worldbuilding Fun: Supers Appear in Different Eras and/or Settings

It has some Torg vibes, but there aren’t reality cosms where the rules of reality bend as you enter them.

Friday Worldbuilding Fun: Supers Appear in Different Eras and/or Settings

There was a new GURPS Infinite Worlds PDF released recently: Gotterdammerung. Infinite Worlds in general are a series of alternate-earth worlds with key divergences from the ‘home timeline’. Gotterdammerung is a ‘unique’ phenomena in the Infinite Worlds campaign frame. It features multiple...

    Modiphius 2d20 System Opinions?

That’s why I picked up a copy of the Dragon Prince RPG. I’m unlikely to run it but a worked example of Cortex is a handy thing to have. I have the Cortex Plus games in PDF, but Dragon Prince is Cortex Prime.

    A game for WH40K

We’ve run 40K in both GURPS (before there was an official 40k RPG) and more recently in Savage Worlds. Both worked really well for us. The newest Sci-Fi companion for SWADE has a number of sub systems and arcane backgrounds which would be very handy for implementing bits of 40k. The system...

How Complex Do You Prefer Your TTRPG Systems In General

That’s an amusing typo or brain fart 😂 SWADE hits my sweet spot so an easy 6 on the scale for me. But the most important thing is that a game uses its complexity well. D&D 5e might be a similar complexity to SWADE but I find that SWADE gives me more useful tools for gaming over what 5e delivers.

What Is Your Favorite Linear Adventure/Campaign

Savage Worlds Plot Point Campaigns are my favourite style of linear-ish modules. The concept is that each adventure has 6-8 plot related encounters / mini adventures (they might include several encounters chained together as one plot point - easily a full session of content, perhaps two session...

Here Are 2026's Most Anticipated TTRPGs... As Voted By You!

Ars Magica Definitive Edition was the nudge we needed to play it again - we’re currently about four sessions into a campaign and re-learning all the rules as we go. It doesn’t change the rules as I understand it, more consolidate and re-present them, so we’ve being using our pre-existing 5e...

GURPS 4th Edition Revised FAQ, March 2026

Ah yes, Chaosium started five years earlier than SJG did.

Well, my three votes (Broken Empires, Ars Magica, Invincible) all placed so I feel validated 🙂 Congratulations to Professor DM!

GURPS 4th Edition Revised FAQ, March 2026

They are quite possibly the most longevitous small publisher of RPGs these days?

GURPS 4th Edition Revised FAQ, March 2026

They have said that SJG (presumably Warehouse23) will offer a book + PDF bundle, which looks like maybe 50% off the PDF price. SJG have always been really strong on the position that the PDFs are a valuable asset and don’t bundle them free with their print products.

GURPS 4th Edition Revised FAQ, March 2026

They have said that if they launch a fifth edition then they will be pretty much committed to new editions of all the main expansions. And currently there isn’t the demand that shows it would be a viable thing to do. So if 4eR seems to help bring new people to the game and the overall health of...

Pulp RPGs, What is Everyone Playing?

Savage Worlds has pulp action at its core, and it is one of the few games I have personally found that delivers on that premise. It’s my favourite genre-flexible system because pretty much all the games I want to run are some type of pulp - pulp sci-fi, pulp horror, pulp fantasy and so on. It’s...

System for character Mutation/Power/Spell that allows players to experiment

Savage Worlds Super Powers Companion has a power stunt mechanic. A character can spend a benny (a meta currency) to use their powers creatively to achieve some non-standard aim. So maybe a character with fire powers might use a power stunt to create an obscuring cloud by blasting water into...

A Veteran Gamer’s Plea: Where’s the Large Print Option for TTRPG Rulebooks?

One of the stated aims for the GURPS 4e Revised rulebook is to improve accessibility (though with a constraint of maintaining page numbers for cross referencing) so it will be interesting to see how that turns out. Due March ‘26.

Why do you play games other than D&D?

I haven’t played Brindlewood Bay but I know my group would see a very big difference between acquiring clues to solve a pre-designed mystery and acquiring clues to a point where they can roll to see if their theory is correct (which would solve the mystery). While the second option might leave...

Why do you play games other than D&D?

Genre and style are definitely different things. You can run noir / horror / four-colour supers / fantasy / sci-fi with Fate, Savage Worlds, GURPS or HERO and each would deliver the same genre with a different feel through their approach. Systems like Cortex and Fudge are more like toolkits in...
