Setting lore matters when it can be used to further their characters' goals. I suspect in a longer campaign it may become easier for them to leverage as more and more lore becomes available. It's also useful for character creation...often enough players scour the setting lore to find something...

That's a nice way of putting it. Often it is my players who tend to drive the spectacle and if it passes the table's general sense of realism it is accepted into the story.

I think I understand your point better now. Sorry slow day. So the majority of us are like-minded at the table where the mechanics need to match what is being narrated in the fiction. If the mechanics need adjusting then we are not hesitant to make the necessary adjustments.

Greek potatoes (as @Cadence posts above) are lemon-roasted with dried oregano - there are now variations with additional herbs but lemon and oregano are the requirement. As for the best potato - roasted, mashed and baked are the trifecta for me.

This is not a healthy attitude to still have - firstly it has been years and secondly many of the ideas of 4e have found themselves in later editions and other games. And plenty of us champion many of these ideas now, even when we didn't appreciate the edition at the time.
