D&D 5E (2014) How do you run a game in Ravnica?

Ravnica is all about Guilds, so my central questions are... Which players will be from which guilds? Will they all be from the same guild or all different?? Which Guilds do you understand and/or can portray? How well can you manage fractional conflict? One group like something but another...

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

But exploration and social stuff shouldn't require rule systems! The DM and players are suppose to improv and negotiate their way through it! And having class abilities for it will just encourage people to look at their character sheets to solve problems. They're suppose to use their...

What makes a successful superhero game?

Your character can fight a tank but can they track down Carmen Sandeigo? And yes, I literally did throw a "where in the world is Carmen Sandeigo?" type adventure at my M&M group.

    Common Pitfalls in Game Design

Oh, we're looking for common pitfalls, eh?? I find expecting your players to read the rules to be a common mistake among designers. How do you design a TTRPG that doesn't require players to read???

Messin' around on your home table is one thing; selling it to the world is another. Heartbreaker is a term for a reason.

Maybe forcing the player to search for and use weird dice IS one of the points of the game?? https://goodman-games.com/dungeon-crawl-classics-rpg/

Check Out The Mutants & Masterminds 4E Playtest

I just think about it for a second and allow it if it makes sense in the fiction. And maybe make them roll a D20 because everything is a D20 check.

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

WOTC made minions because they thought tracking the HP of twenty plus creatures was too much of a pain. Does anyone here want to share tips for managing a fight with thirty of so giants??

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

Crawl around these forums long enough and you'll find people who tolerate the rules of D&D to access the community and reach it has so they can do the immersive fiction creation/simulation that they actually want. I'm not one of them (and pointing out who I think they are could be too personal...

D&D isn't a game to everyone. Some people treat it as fictional creation experience.

How do your players feel?? Would they rather you be impartial and TPK them or fudge things so they live?

D&D 5E (2024) How do you rule using a Hand Crossbow with a nick weapon

The obviously solution is to have the PLAYER handle a crossbow and dagger IRL and base your in game ruling on how well they use both weapons at the same time.
