    No you don't. You spend a resource to reroll or whatever. They don't need to provide any narrative control. They don't even have to be metagame if "luck" or "the force" are real things in the fiction.

    I put PF2 above PF1 mostly because of the density of Tags, as well as little modifiers and lots of conditions. But the distance between them is not that great, just a little different.

    I am not sure why you would need "narrative" mechanics for that. There are lots of solutions to the design problem. One of the easiest is to give the non-Jedi more drama points/bennies/luck/whatever. Buffy did this and it worked great.

    Well, if the new players won't know, no worries... Look, all I can say is that for me and my players, it is a worse version of the rules and less fun to play. They spent all that time "playtesting" and the results were sub-par.

    Every game is built with restrictions inherent to it. By this logic, D&D should not stop at level 20 and should have some arbitrarily longer level progression.
