    Converting monsters from Dragon magazine

After further thought, let's keep the Morningstar as that matches the Fachan's 2d6 weapon damage. A Greatclub is 2d8 damage at Large size, which is the weapon damage of an AD&D Hill Giant not the Fachan.

    Converting monsters from Dragon magazine

Upon reflection, maybe we should lower the Strength a tad? The original had a +4 damage bonus, which suggests Strength on of 18/76 to /95 so in AD&D terms and 18 or 19 in 3E terms. We gave it Strength 25 to match the gauntlet of fachan power's +6 damage bonus rather than the +4 damage bonus of...

    Converting monsters from Dragon magazine

Will include that in the next update. I'm assuming you prefer the simpler approach of cutting the standard +1 attack for Rock Throwing than keeping it and lowering the Monocular Vision ranged attack penalty –3 to give its thrown rocks an overall –2 to hit penalty. I've got Morningstar in the...

    Converting Planescape monsters

Okay, I've just realized there's a few wee issues with the template. Firstly, the only official D&D stats for a Decaton are from the old Wizards of the Coast website and those are only 3.0. There are D&D 3.5 from Planewalker.com, but those aren't official. Secondly, there was a major switch...

Will start work on the Brainswapped Modronoid (Template) Working Draft.

    Converting Planescape monsters

Agreed. Modifying the Derro's Madness works for me, and that would be ok for regular modronoids, too. Do you want to go all the way to Cha +6 and Wis -6 or stick to smaller modifiers? So are we leaving the Derro Madness's immunity to confusion and insanity effects? I'd make it a +/–2 modifier...

Converting original D&D and Mystara monsters

Hmm… If the bielgorad snags an opponent's leg with the hook instead of their neck wouldn't that trip them up? How's this for a writeup: Crook (Ex): A bielgorad's shepherd's crook is a melee weapon that is a Large +2 one-handed magical weapon when wielded by a bielgorad. In the hands of any...

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

I initially used "humanoid" but that has a specific game-mechanic meaning in D&D so decided against it. Though come to think of it, that applies to "giant" as well. How about "A huge being resembling a humanoid but roughly three times taller than a human and far wider?" Also noticed a typo -...

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

Okay, from re-reading the MC and I4 entries and my memories of the Al-Qadim City of Brass box set that I can't be bothered to pull out of my collection, the customs and behaviour of a Noble Efreeti is pretty well covered by the Description of standard Efreet in the 5E Monstrous Manual. Anyhow...

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

My idea/plan was to reread the 2E Monstrous Compendium Efreeti Noblie and Oasis and boil down the fluff text into a description.

    Converting Oriental Adventures creatures

Those sizes didn't exist in Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. First Edition AD&D had Small, Man-sized and Large. Second Edition AD&D had Tiny, Small, Man-sized, Large, Huge and Gargantuan. I'm leaning towards making them Tiny to keep their vulnerability to normal weapon damage.

Updated the Efreeti Firelord Working Draft. So all we have left is the Description?

    Kraken Variants

Yeah, we might as well leave the trample damage as is. You're expecting consistency in AD&D mechanics?! o_O

    Converting True Dragons

Let's see, what did we give Pearl the Moon Dragon: Skills: Appraise +36, Balance +6, Bluff +62, Concentration +63, Diplomacy +74, Disguise +37 (+43 acting), Gather Information +62, Intimidate +68, Jump +37, Knowledge (arcana) +35, Knowledge (history) +35, Knowledge (nature) +17, Knowledge...

5E: Completed Fifth Edition Creatures Index

Okay, I don't think I'll bother transcribing your 2024 format versions here since I'm lazy. Maybe if I get really bored I'll add them on sometime but I don't feel any rush. Gosh, is Fifth Edition really eleven years old now? Doesn't time fly.

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

Assuming its round's attacks are three Fiery Falchions for 29½ damage each, plus a 14 damage bonus action, a 9 damage Reaction, Legendaries worth 18 damage and it's set two opponents on fire for 11 damage, which adds up to a 140½ DPR. Running the numbers through the CR Calculator the firelord...

Converting monsters from Tales From The Infinite Staircase

Yes. The adventure's text describing the Dark Dweller encounter was rather long and wordy so I didn't include it in the Homebrew version I posted. Might email or PM you a transcription of it later.

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

Okay, so I need to check the CR Calculator to see what its Challenge Rating is. Should the DPR be too high it might bump the firelord up to a +7 Proficiency Bonus. If that happens, I'd rather bump the skills, saves, attacks, DCs et cetera up by 1 than bump the damage figures down to match a...
