Now that this is over (for now at least) What are you going to do?

I might unblock Wizards’ Twitter accounts, and I might re-preorder that Keys book. But I’m going to wait a few hours first, to see if someone finds a ginormous loophole in this latest Wizards’ gambit.

WotC Backs Down: Original OGL To Be Left Untouched; Whole 5E Rules Released as Creative Commons

So: are the publishers and games created under the OGL actually safe now? My trust for Wizards is low; I would like to know that the CC for 5.1e would preclude them from trying this again next year?

D&D 5E (2014) Which D&D books currently scheduled for 2023 are you interested in?

I’m curious about Planescape and Phandelver, but 5e Spelljammer has set my hopes pretty low for Planescape, and their intentional shift to adventures made in small chunks makes me dubious about Phandelver. Plus, the general Wizards fiasco. 🙃 It may be a pretty cheap year for me! Probably just...

WotC: We Are Not Making AI Dungeon Masters

(I simply noted that this careful denial of several rumors does NOT deny what I see as the core rumor/plan. Your mileage, of course, may vary.) 👇

D&D 5E (2014) [Kobold Press] Project Black Flag Update: Sticking To Our Principles

I am also getting old(er). I filled the form out a second time in case I’d misremembered filling it out the first time! ;)

D&D 5E (2014) [Kobold Press] Project Black Flag Update: Sticking To Our Principles

I got the same response… because I had already filled the form out on the day they first raised the Black Flag.

WotC: We Are Not Making AI Dungeon Masters

Yes, but all that matters to me is their intent to nullify the OGL. And they’re not denying that. 😡

WotC Talks OGL... Again! Draft Coming Jan 20th With Feedback Survey; v1 De-Auth Still On

What’s a WOTC account? The last I had an account with them was 10+ years ago, with D&D Insider.

WotC Talks OGL... Again! Draft Coming Jan 20th With Feedback Survey; v1 De-Auth Still On

I can’t do that without subscribing to D&D Beyond, and I’m not sharing my Google or Apple accounts with WOTC.

I think they got what they wanted

They might not even be planning to publish a Core Rulebook, at least at first. Kobold’s business is in 5e adventures, splat books, and Midgard. Even a web-only 5e clone SRD will allow them to continue publishing what they are already publishing. An updated SRD and actual Core Rules will...

OGL: Kobold Press 'Raising Our Flag' For New Open RPG

Yep. KP briefly had a Black Flag announcement page that said as much, but it was quickly revised to a less specific statement.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

Someday, someone will make an AI DM. And some people will pay to play with it. I am fine with this.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

Wizards did get me to pay $10/mo for eDungeon & eDragon, plus some 4e tools... for a while. It didn't justify its value for long, though. :( At least with that, I got a bunch of pdf's, of widely variable quality. I have no interest in a VTT, so I'm not sure what ephemeral goods they could offer...

OGL: What Are The Publishers Saying [UPDATED]

Me too. Dolmenwood is the thing I’m most interested in seeing in the near future. (And the fate of OSR games like OSE is the thing I’m most concerned about with this attempt to undo the OGL. OK?) ;)

WotC might still want to stop Third Party VTTs in their new draft

Worse. It doesn’t even matter what they say today. They are reserving the right to change their new license rules whenever and however they see fit.

Paizo Announces New Irrevocable Open RPG License To Replace the OGL

I remember building a Player’s Option bard that I just loved to play. He had a wide variety of skills and lots of spells… but he wasn’t good at them. Had a 15-25% spell failure rate, that seemed to come up far more often than that. I played him as a wildly enthusiastic adventurer, who was often...
