D&D 5E (2014) Anyone else hoping that the next campaign book WotC releases is 15th to 20th levels?

I don't believe most players or more importantly WOTC has the interest. Overall the story and experience is the most important, and it is easier to address that via a new adventure and starting over. Attempting to take on the baggage from a previous one with high level characters is difficult.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is he evil?

I would never let one event determine evil or good, especially when a character is in combat. However, with that stated the player should be consistent with how the character acts, so in that sense the battle master may have a short temper or tunnel vision once provoked. So are you trying to...

D&D 5E (2014) Why Eldritch Blast only targets creatures

I would make the point that common magic, including eldritch blast should not be selective (have the ability to effect any target), and when you get into deeper warlock magic that truly involves a curse then it would be selective. That ties into the concept of specialization and being harder to...

WotC Wants your Feedback On The Revised Ranger

I agree where the line is drawn can be debated, but it does not need to be justified just because MMOs do something similar. There is overlap and then there is stepping on toes. The more diverse the class is, especially if it has spell use, will increase the chance of lessening another classes...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Presents Alternative Encounter Building Guidelines

I believe it would be for the novice DM. An experienced DM is going to know better based on system mastery and a adventure writer is interested in capturing the audience with a good story; knowing a DM will modify it to address any gaps. And the end of the day it is better to build in the...

D&D 5E (2014) Legal Ready action triggers and order of resolution

Unless you introduce the concept of speed of an action, attack, spell, etc. in the game then I do not know how a DM could be fair and consistent. It makes more sense to me that whoever is owner of the action is going to be quicker than someone that is trying to interrupt it. I guess you could...

D&D 5E (2014) Is the major thing that's disappointing about Sorcerers is the lack of sorcery point options?

That is a natural consequence of a Sorcerer being Charisma based, and overall is why I prefer systems like 4E that allows classes to have different primary attributes. It is a simple concept that goes a long way to customize.

Wanting players to take in-game religion more seriously

Have the gods react to what the character do in subtle ways, whether that is bonus spells, NPCs or monsters reacting differently, just don't try to convert them over night ;p Religion takes time and devotion.

Who's Playing What on Fantasy Grounds?

I would expect any game could improve its chances, i.e. number of players, if it released consumable content for the DM and player. Otherwise, I found FG to cumbersome to work with when developing it from scratch.

D&D 5E (2014) Magic Missile vs. Mirror Image

My point is based on the history of D&D, so this can not be the first time issues like this has come up. The word 'target' removes a lot of ambiguity and it saves ink since target is only 6 letters :)

D&D 5E (2014) Magic Missile vs. Mirror Image

I would run into a problem as a DM or player when a low level spell like Magic Missile has super intelligence to discern different types of targets (live or inanimate). I would just equate it to a real world equivalent of a laser with a very precise target system to auto hit. But it does not...

WotC Wants your Feedback On The Revised Ranger

It would make more sense to me that a ranger could succeed a check with advantage in regards to any activities performed by a creature in a 5 mile radius, without the instant telepathy or super cognition. Save the magic stuff like that for spells. The ranger could be a short range 5 senses...

    D&D 4E 4E vs 5E: Monsters and bounded accuracy

Armor or weapons or any tool for that matter being impacted by skill (learned or natural talent) makes perfect sense to me. In addition, all editions of D&D had static armor values, but editions like 3E or 4E allowed you to use special material to add more bonuses. It also makes sense to me...

WotC Wants your Feedback On The Revised Ranger

There appears to be a tug of war in reference to the ranger being a combination of a fighter, monk and rogue. The abilities have to match what niche the ranger is trying to fill starting with favored terrain and/or enemies. As written general abilities to hide, dash, 1d10 hit dice, or automatic...

    D&D 4E 4E vs 5E: Monsters and bounded accuracy

I am not sure 4E auto scaling, or 5E bounded accuracy for monsters is any different. Because both lack variety in regards to monster abilities, AC, etc. They are both constant in regards to they always change or never change. I believe that is the source of the problem. I did find adjusting 4E...

D&D 5E (2014) Crowd Control and an Anti-Climactic Boss Fight

Always have backup, that is why the big bad guy has survived for so long against so many odds. It is my opinion that you should steer away from legendary anything, as they are a contrived game mechanic, in case you want to risk the single opponent. I find it more interesting to beef up the big...

    D&D 5E (2014) What am I missing?

It brings up the classic example of mundane versus magical, which includes stunning, in addition to hit points, damage on a miss, etc. There is a tendency to base anything, but magic, into a semi-realistic physical world.

Mike Mearls on D&D Psionics: Should Psionic Flavor Be Altered?

My viewpoint. 1. No psionic power duplicates a spell, and vice versa? There will be duplicates, when it makes sense like mind reading, charm, etc. to totally remove one from the other makes no sense. 2. Psionics uses a distinct mechanic, so no spell slots? I believe it should be a distinct...

D&D 5E (2014) hypothetical - a giant capturing downed pc's while rest of party fights on? rule for this

And a lot of people like to roll for the right reason :) Which is debated at every table in existence at some point. So it is not shocking that the forum is no different. If a DM wants something to happen in the game, then it is not too hard to stack the deck against the players. I would just...

D&D 5E (2014) After 2 years the 5E PHB remains one of the best selling books on Amazon

And the hardest thing to determine is how PHB sales translates to playing the game long term. It is one thing to have a copy, which is great as the first step into the door, but how many people are staying. It is good regardless for those that want the RPG industry to get a kick in the leg, for...
