    D&D 5E (2014) AoE spells affecting casters?

There is always a debate between what the character knows versus the player, and as a DM I would probably warn the player of something the character should know. But if it was a constant habit of the player to not pay attention to spell effects, or if the character was written up as being...

    D&D 5E (2014) Vulnerability And Resistance

I prefer constant modifiers in regards to vulnerability or resistance, versus automatic scaling based on the damage done. I also like constant modifiers for environmental effects like darkness, distance, etc. Those can apply to any type of roll whether it is damage, hit or saves. I guess it...

D&D 5E (2014) I would really like a return of the old Bard class.

I wish the bard would have focused on song as a separate type of magic the was closer to ritual use (or songs on paper that could be memorized). That would have provided a lot more room for a class like a Warlord. But 5E was more about subclasses, versus offering new systems. Overall, I prefer...

    D&D 5E (2014) African deities/campaign setting or area?

You could strip out Gulg from Dark Sun complete with the sorcerer-queen Lalali-Puy. That has an African tone to it. But overall and I am not aware of a D&D setting that elevates an African theme.

    D&D 5E (2014) Ravenloft= Meh

    I can see that distinction.

    D&D 5E (2014) Ravenloft= Meh

Horror is about the unknown, and that is very hard to pull off with the well known like vampires or undead in general. And 5E is pretty big on going over the well known from a nostalgia perspective when creating adventure paths.

    D&D 5E (2014) Monks breaking gravity

I can see both sides of the argument, but I would tend to rule anything that is not along the normal plane of gravity, i.e. ground, would be considered a vertical jump based on the extra effort (both up and out).

D&D 5E (2014) Is the stat system biased against front-liners?

Yes. There is more synergy with casters and one stat, because spells can fill the gaps to a certain extent. Martial characters on the other hand need to be better rounded, unless the DM is generous with magic items.

D&D 5E (2014) Why Has D&D, and 5e in Particular, Gone Down the Road of Ubiquitous Magic?

I love GURPS magic much more than anything D&D has, unless you are into the Monte Haul magic rules everything at high level mind set. GURPS can go that route with magic knacks, power stones, or high mana. And it is simple on top of everything else.

    D&D 5E (2014) Boy, that escalated quickly...

I believe it is a DM issues versus the system. But reliable challenge ratings or levels does make it easier for the DM to judge a specific monster against the party. And one thing I did learn from 4E is to create an encounter that spans multiple rooms or areas, and place conditions on when...

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Magic: Does it Feel Magical to You?

I never felt D&D was a good representation of magic overall, but one thing 5E lacks on all fronts is depth. So from a D&D perspective, there is not enough detail in regards to making magic items, expanding ritual use, or letting non-magic using classes to create magic, e.g. smiths.

D&D 5E (2014) What Makes the Fighter Best at Fighing?

I believe the best fighter is the one that can adapt, and to adapt in 5E you need spells. Maneuvers are presented as a poor substitute.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e completely nerfed charm - for YOU, anyway

Monsters don't have to work like PCs, but I do not believe monster abilities should be created in a vacuum. There should be some bridge to explain vampire charm versus a spell or risk losing a sense of verisimilitude. The same thing is a problem with legendary actions, because they have the...

Water, water everywhere, Nor any drop to drink

I believe the bigger problem for a class like a warlord is not having a wide selection of maneuvers, which is limited by being a subclass of a fighter. Both the EK and Battlemaster would have been better as a separate class. Of course, subclasses will be not be a problem for the majority of 5E...

D&D 5E (2014) Why no Proficiency bonus to AC?

I would rather have a well rounded system where each class could use abilities that require saves or attack AC, then AC and hit points would make more sense with BA, instead of creating a pigeon hole for martial classes.

    D&D 5E (2014) Conjure Animals NERFED

It sounds like more detail is needed, since it would be cool to specialize with specific animals, but 5E and the spell does not offer that depth. So as a DM, knowing my player likes that option, I would meet somewhere in the middle. Where you need special components or specific environments to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Three Saves

And the other side of the equation, regardless of what you choose as the saving throw system, is providing abilities for each class to use it. 5E already has a problem with the majority of classes being spell casters, and spells providing a wider range of diversity in regards to attacking AC or...

    D&D 5E (2014) Restrained + Enlarge

If the caster can choose what grows, then the spell becomes much more powerful. But the DM has the final decision, so start writing down the out of the box interpretations.

Is TOMB OF HORRORS the Worst Adventure Of All Time?

It was one of the most unforgiving adventures that subscribed to a specific style of play and most likely received bad reviews when the table did not appreciate its focus.
