D&D 5E (2014) Was it too much? Dealing with TPKs and more

It depends on what you want to do as the DM. If you are asking the question, then do you want to continue a campaign, take a break or start a new one? Usually the players will follow your lead. If you notice the players on not into the campaign, then that is a separate discussion.

D&D 5E (2014) One or Two Fights a Day Encounter Design

One thing I miss from 4E is proportional healing based on surges. A fighter should recover faster from injuries as a feature of the class.

    D&D 5E (2014) Brand Vs RPG

I bought the players handbook, but I never based my purchase on branding. I typically take the wait and see approach. I was all gaga about Pathfinder at first glance but after I waited a few months and did my research I realized it was not the game for me.

D&D 4E 4E DnD Insider Moving; No Longer Available To New Subscribers

Once they went to the online character builder my interest in 4E tools waned. Doing the same thing in 5E via online tools is a non-starter. If I don't own the content, then I don't want it.

D&D 5E (2014) One or Two Fights a Day Encounter Design

That seems like a lot of work versus just reducing the time period for short rests, or even long rests. You could also add a constant on to any hit dice healing that is done, like 1/4 the characters hit points.

5e combat system too simple / boring?

I find 5e is boring with certain aspects of the game. For me it is the gap between certain classes in regards to the choices they have. The only system that tried to address that across the board was 4E but it went to far, and 5E took the traditional choice that casters are more flexible. Add...

D&D 5E (2014) Warlock Higher Level Spellcasting: Too easy to counter/dispel or effective?

It really boils down to classes with fewer abilities or short recycle periods versus those like the wizard that have more choices with long recycle periods. The later is more adaptable unless the DM is generous with the short refresh cycles, which I am guessing the majority are not. From a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Speeding Up Combat

Thanks. Another way you can look at the simple rule is to use less for singular nouns and fewer for plural nouns.

    D&D 5E (2014) What's up with the Net?

You could also add an element of trained versus non-trained for exotic weapons. What I don't like about save mechanics is not treating it like an attack where the skill of the attacker comes into play. I see a net as an equal amount of strength and dexterity to use it correctly.

    D&D 5E (2014) Speeding Up Combat

    Have less battles.

    D&D 5E (2014) Berserker Barbarian Fix?

Make it a concentration check to maintain, just like certain spells. I never understood why the concentration mechanic was just limited to spells when it should be included for any related mechanic in the game, even consuming potions.

    D&D 5E (2014) Are you currently happy with Dragon+?

With all things being considered I still prefer PDF.

D&D 5E (2014) Some feats/options are removing cool mechanical features of the game

All I can state is the game would probably work better when adding layers of depth or choices if the developers decided to create maneuvers as the tool box for martial characters like spells work for casters. Then you would have a lot of choices in class to mix and match features and then...

D&D 5E (2014) Which of the core books have you read cover to cover?

Considering my experience with RPGs all the way back to the D&D blue box, I do not remember reading any of the rules books from cover to cover (even over a couple days or a week). However, like anything else it depends on the meaning, i.e. are the chances good that you will read an entire rule...

    Keeping My 5e Players Happy

It is hard to judge in a short window any type of player frustration. It usually starts as a seed and grows. So have you been hard on the party overall in regards to monster challenges? Has the ranger fallen multiple times where others seem to survive the ordeal? Overall, it is never a good...

    D&D 5E (2014) Concentration: combining two effects

You could add a method to have more concentration spells but at a cost to the caster. So they would have to reserve extra spells slots (x2) each day for every spell you want to remove concentration.

D&D 5E (2014) Insights on a Warrior Antagonist creation using the books

I would look at any non-casting class ability as fair game for a martial warrior, including the rogue class. That is how it should have worked had they made the wise choice and added maneuvers as the tool box for martial classes. You also have to consider action economy by removing limits on...

    D&D 5E (2014) Back from 15 years of D&D coma

Loss of level can be as simple as they lost their old memories, or only can remember back their youngest years in the academy due to trauma, etc.
