    D&D 5E (2014) Greg Leeds talks about D&D

I think the dividing line is those that want more story but keep the game simple, versus those that want more crunch to make it the game they want. You will never find a happy medium.

D&D 5E (2014) [Forgotten Realms] The Wall of the Faithless

After 5E rewrote 4E history I have little faith left in the product, so I guess I am just another statistic stuck to the wall.

Sword Coast Legends Survey; Plus Ranger Feedback Results!

The control is in how clear the rules are for any side of the table, otherwise the DM has the advantage. But that goes into an entirely different discussion, so I will abstain from any further comment.

    D&D 5E (2014) Greg Leeds talks about D&D

The majority of the discussion is just WOTC corporate selling points. There is no reference to comparisons between the rates of release for different editions and what the expected profit margins where. I guess the other way to state is they will not increase the rate of products, because that...

Sword Coast Legends Survey; Plus Ranger Feedback Results!

That depends on what perspective you are taking. As a DM who wants simplicity just adding a pet as a NPC is one of the best options for simplicity, but from a player perspective it is one of the worse, because the pet is under the arbitration of the DMs whims. At least with spell casters, if you...

D&D 5E (2014) 5th edition Ranger: Why does every class have to have it's own schtick?

I have always seen a ranger as a rogue or fighter variant, but I was never into a magic ranger hybrid. But magic is really the main mechanic in 5E to offer flexibility to a class. That is why the majority of 5E classes use it and why the martial side tends to be locked into single path...

    November's SAGE ADVICE Is Here!

Since the DM rules in 5E, then sage advice is just the developers opinion as a DM. And then you have RAW and any inconsistencies, unless there is errata. At least that is how I roll.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e RAW swimming.

With the fly spell you can carry a tarrasque. 5E is very light in certain areas.

D&D 5E (2014) How many adventurers are in your world?

It depends on the size of the table and my patience as a DM.

Sword Coast Legends Survey; Plus Ranger Feedback Results!

That was discussed during the playtest as a general solution to companions and action economy. But 5E does not appear to be in a place where they want to add more complexity. With the exception of psionics, they are in the mind set of must use existing classes/subclasses. And then you end up...

D&D 5E (2014) Barbarians: Why Rage per Day?

You could look at a recovery option similar to a wizard, where so many short rests a day the barbarian is able to rage again or implement very specific controlled rages.

    D&D 5E (2014) Playable Plant People

I would look at plants in the real world for clues or overtones on what traits a plant race may have, but I would not take plant ecology as a literal translation. Otherwise, you can start to look at other races like Genasi and wonder why they exist. How can certain races have extended life...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's a Warlord? Never heard of this class before.

I disagree with the strong warlord feel with the battlemaster or purple dragon knight. Otherwise, we would not have endless warlord threads on mechanics or feel. And a clear action economy is a boon for any class and game. 5E suffers from the action economy being very basic and loose, so there...

D&D 5E (2014) Breaking down the Fighter archetypes.

It makes no sense that the Battlemaster has maneuvers yet for some reason those can not be used by the champion or EK. Where technically, the EK should be a separate class. The only reason the champion exists is for game reasons so someone can use a simple class. So overall the fighter...

D&D 5E (2014) Barbarians: Why Rage per Day?

I agree that is a problem with the short rest mechanic in general. Where things that are designed on daily rests will always happen based on uses per day as a balancing factor.

D&D 5E (2014) DM's: what do you do with players who want to switch characters?

I would let them switch as long as they can cover the story as to why one left and the other is introduced. But I would also try to determine the motivation, because some players may want to switch characters every other month.

D&D 5E (2014) How badly did Sword Coast Legends damage the brand?

In this instance even bad press is good press as the game has more exposure. Whether they fix the game to be at least functional in regards to the experience they advertised is the most important. But it may have negative consequences for those that have already bought into it and are...

D&D 5E (2014) DM's: what do you do with players who miss time?

I would watch the trend over time, just like I would look at non-interest or bad behavior at the table overall and then discuss with the player why they want to play or why they are late all the time (versus a one-off). But I tend to keep experience the same regardless if a session is missed...

    D&D 5E (2014) A Touch of the Strange

I would not confuse mystery with randomness. Although randomness does help to generate new hooks or ideas. But if the adventures has narrative elements that no matter how far removed or alien eventually lead back to the main story then that is good writing. Including a good mystery.
