D&D 5E (2014) Why does WotC put obviously bad or illogical elements in their adventures?

How can you be disappointed besides you don't like the story Gandalf is in? D&D is a different creature and/or medium. It involves dice, tactics, and participation from each player. Add to that an adventure path where you are required at various points to discern the intent of the designer. It...

D&D 5E (2014) How has your personal experience/expertise affected rulings?

Is the DM trying to relate a story or a realistic world? The former tends to lead to railroad answers and the later random dice rolls.

    D&D 5E (2014) I played a game of Classic D&D.

Sometimes just doing something different is enough, whether that is classic D&D or another roleplaying system. I am amazed the stamina some players have in regards to using the same system beyond 3 to 4 years. The rules themselves do contribute to the feel of the game and therefore 5E is its own...

D&D Beyond Launches on August 15th for $3-6/m

If they provide the tools to create adventures, characters, monsters, items, etc. and share the materials then it would be worth the price. I am paying for a service to reach beyond my local base of players, or just make it easier to play in general. However, I want the feature to download and...

D&D 5E (2014) Is it fair to cast save-or-suck spells on the players?

My only argument pro or con in regards to save or suck is consistency from a rules perspective. Martial ability should have similar save or suck in the same proportion to spells. After that whatever the players throw at the DM can be paid back in spades.

D&D 5E (2014) Resting and the frikkin' Elephant in the Room

Unless the resource system is more granular the problem is never going to be solved, whether you agree it is a problem is the rest of the thread.

    D&D 5E (2014) Why FR Is "Hated"

FR is too complex and tries to be too much.

[UPDATED] Here's Mike Mearls' New D&D 5E Initiative System

I believe going into minutiae for weapons, armor or spells in regards to initiative is taking it too far. The basics of D&D are about the class and race you choose. It is worth exploring but what dice is chosen should be influence the most by class, like a monk is faster that a fighter or a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Range/Move Redux

I believe understanding the rules is the pendulum. It just takes one player to see the gap to start influencing how characters are developed. You can still value story but aren't blind to certain advantages with the rule set.

D&D 5E (2014) Ranged party member keeps running off the map

Ranged weapons win based on 5E's stripped down combat system, including movement. The DM must force it through terrain like confined spaces. You need more detail on ranged combat to allow the system itself to address it, but that is not 5E.

The New D&D Adventure Storyline Will Be Announced On June 2nd-3rd

I am not interested in another Tomb of Horrors remake, including Acererak. That is one thing that can lay to rest in the dust.

D&D 5E (2014) Anyone else think the Bard concept is just silly?

I can see how that can be perceived, but I would define it as out of place. Why can a Battle master learn maneuvers, but a champion for some obscure/unknown/mechanical restraint is not allowed to have them as a class feature. It does not make sense in any world, especially a fantasy genre. It...

D&D 5E (2014) Anyone else think the Bard concept is just silly?

In the magical world of D&D that bard fits in pretty well, a class like the champion fighter is just silly.

    D&D 5E (2014) Crawford on Stealth

You can always treat passive skills in general as spider sense, or some indication that something is out of the norm, without stating what it is. Then let the player roll from that point forward depending on what clue or statement is provided by the DM. Or just use the take 10 or take 20 rule...

    D&D 5E (2014) Hate ASI's ?

Players will game the system, I gave up on the arms race as a DM. There is enough randomness in the game to keep players on their toes, regardless of the ability scores. However, I do appreciate the effort to make characters more random in their makeup as a realistic representation of the...

    D&D 5E (2014) To Allow Multi-Class or Not....A DM's Dilemma

If you are unsure about multi-classing, which equates to lack of DM experience on the subject (and is very important for 5e in general), then make class level progression slower. And I mean slow. Then you have time to adjust.

D&D 5E (2014) DM forgets to mention and describe a plot point, how should that be addressed?(Storm King's Thunder:possible minor spoilers)

It is a DM problem, for the love of whatever you hold sacred, don't reveal to the table that you missed something. They will be second guessing you from that point forward :)
