In 2016, WotC released a System Reference Document (SRD) for 5e under the Open Gaming License. That is how all of the various different third party publishers release settings and rule books for Fifth Edition. As long as it is in the SRD it is fair game.

As Lilja pointed out, we're doing a lot in the system to give folks choices. Now, we love the original system too and Ruins of Symbaroum will have lots of familiar touchstones for 5e players, but it also will present a lot of choices for players to bring their characters to life. As said above...

Yep, the Starter Set should be out pretty soon. It includes a Guide to Brightspear with a tonne of adventure hooks, pregenerated characters, a fully-detailed starting adventure and lots of helpful references and tokens for use in the game.

That seems very straightforward. Can you return it to its original size when it is a d4? sure. But can you restore it after you roll that 4 on the d4? no takebacks, it's gone.

Nope. You lose it until you take a long rest. Which means when to use that bonus action to restore the d4 back to its starting size is a gamble, which is nice.

The rules are essentially the same. The rulebook has been cleaned up, reorganised and has new graphics and art to get you into the feel of 40k. A few bits and bobs that only appeared in weird places (e.g. on a reference card) have now been integrated into the core rules. For clarity's sake...

I think you mentioned that you hadn't checked out the Essential Kit yet? That's a collection of small adventures (1-4 pages) that are geographically linked (and there's some story links too) that comes with free D&D Beyond version and additional adventures. It sounds just like what you want...

Regarding the maps, here's one of the official maps for the campaign: I imagine we will get a full continent map by the same cartographer (Deven Rue), since she's already done one of the Menagerie Coast as well.
