I summon ye Planescape fans! Share with me your Arcadian knowledge!

I'm going to have to profusely apologize here (even after the effort was made to sacrifice something, burn some incense, and summon me) - Arcadia is quite literally the one plane in the Great Wheel cosmology that I've never done anything with. Never went there in a campaign, never wrote any...

    D&D 5E (2014) Legen Lore 7/14/2014

Modrons make me smile. Kudos to WotC on this one. :) Perhaps a few yugoloths in the MM? They almost made it into the 3e MM, maybe this time they will. What would make me even happier is some actual Planescape style classic tieflings. Non-homogenous in appearance, any fiend heritage (and no...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tiefling preview!

It was shoehorned in. The 2e/3e flavor for tieflings could have been easily incorporated into 5e and allowed both the classic tiefling option (descended from any variety of fiend, maybe even more than one type or maybe just due to planar influence rather than a tryst with a fiend; wild...

    Shemeska's Planescape Storyhour - (Updated 18Jan2026)

It was a very minor plot point, being a nod to the advanced nupperibo in Jangling Hiter in 2e's 'Tales of the Infinite Staircase'. It wasn't part of the main plot, and so I don't recall offhand if Clueless ever went there on his own in a side session of the game. I don't believe so, but other...

    Pretty much this right here.

    D&D 5E (2014) Tiefling preview!

Given that Pathfinder retains the 2e/3e style of tiefling (and is even more explicit about diversity in their fiendish heritage and appearance), I would doubt that.

Pathfinder 1E Are demons and devils too similar?

I'll field an explanation here since I literally wrote the Pathfinder book on the daemons. Daemons are a race of singularly selfish, self-interested entities united by a singular hunger and a rapacious, all-consuming hatred of mortals. The rest of the multiverse can do as it wishes, but in the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tiefling preview!

2e/3e tieflings were descended from any fiend. Demon, devil, yugoloth, etc. 4e was devil only.

    D&D 5E (2014) Tiefling preview!

Where is this from? If so it's another bizarre choice, because cambions are demonic half-fiends.

    D&D 5E (2014) Tiefling preview!

*sigh* Devil blooded only. Seriously? That completely misses the point of the classic 2e and 3e tieflings, replacing them with something using their name but apparently based completely on the 4e creature from Evans' novel. That's a shame.

    D&D 5E (2014) Player's Handbook Races

Aasimars don't have to be descended from angels. There are other celestials, some with less human features than others. Some archons are less human, all of the guardinals have animal features, and the eladrin are more fey than humanoid in appearance. There's a lot of diversity to pick from for...

    D&D 5E (2014) Player's Handbook Races

And I'd be fine with that actually. It's the chance that they reserve the name "tiefling" in 5e to refer exclusively to the outlier (the 4e version) and rename the 2e/3e tiefling to something else that worries me as a gigantic fan of the race.

    D&D 5E (2014) Player's Handbook Races

I know, I'm just hoping that they don't make that mistake. It's just a lot more respectful to the history of the game to keep the classic tiefling as the default one. The 2e/3e tieflings have a longer history and larger amount of material written using them than the 4e versions, the 4e versions...
