    D&D 4E 4E: Why now?

Well of course it all comes down to the bottom line, when all is said and done. But that doesn't make for a very interesting or meaningful discussion. And the designers behind the game, while they are being paid to do it, certainly have their own reasons for doing it that go beyond the...

    D&D 4E 4E: Why now?

I think there a number of reasons why they are choosing to release 4th Edition in the near future, other than the cynical "they want to make us buy everything again" stuff that keeps coming up. Product cycles have changed in pretty much every industry; customers generally have far more options...

D&D 4E 4E: What we think we know

I'm sure it will. I just hope that the core rules are a little better thought-out so that you don't need stuff like the Mystic Theurge to make a character concept work. I have no doubt that 6 years after 4e we'll be drowning in supplements. It would be nice, however, if they organized them a...

Are you a 3.5e grognard? Post here!

I've never been a grognard for anything. I look forward to D&D 4th Edition and Fallout 3, with great excitement. My gaming goes back 20 years to 1st Edition and Basic/Expert D&D (and both Fallout games), so it's got nothing to do with a lack of gaming experience. Must be the ADHD in me.

D&D 4E 4E: What we think we know

I'm going to be kicking off a new game when I re-join my gaming group once the project I'm currently working on is finished (Skate ). The current stack of books that I have to cart around -- even with some being supplied by players -- is getting insane. With this new game, I've been thinking...

    D&D 4E Will you buy 4e?

I'll definitely be buying 4th Edition, unless the previews reveal aspects totally to my dislike. Even if it's a revised & consolidated 3.5 Edition, then it's worth it to me to not have everything spread out among so many books. If it takes a cue from the Star Wars SAGA game, especially in...

    The big announcement: 4dventure

I completely agree with you. 1st Edition was still a workable system when 2nd Edition came out, and there was way less material to rework and clean-up back then. 3.5 is still very playable, but there is a lot of stuff that I'd like to see streamlined, consolidated, and cleaned-up.

    360 or PS3?

A Final Fantasy IV remake by the same team that did FF3 is on its way. If that's successful too, I would not be surprised to see V and VI follow suit. Etrian Odyssey is already out and is very much a throwback to the Wizardry and Bard's Tale style (including the insane difficulty). You have...

    Fallout: worth picking up?

If you do visit No Mutants Allowed to check out more Fallout info, prepare yourself for what is possible one of the most hostile and unfriendly message boards on the Internet. Some of these guys have huge chips on their shoulders about anything that takes RPGs farther away from the mold that...

    360 or PS3?

Agreed. And on top of that, the move from DVD to HD/Blu-Ray is nowhere near as meaningful as the move from VHS to DVD. From a purely technical standpoint, you may in fact be doubling the visual resolution, but that itself has a point of diminishing returns. VHS to DVD brought a huge number of...

    360 or PS3?

There are plenty of "real games" available for the Wii, other than Zelda (which is an amazing game): Super Paper Mario Elebits The Godfather: Blackhand Edition Resident Evil 4 (if you're like me and didn't play it on GC or PS2) Prince of Persia: Rival Swords (if you're like me and didn't play...

Why are we trying to make 1st level PCs tougher?

1st level characters in D&D have always seemed extremely fragile and somewhat incompetent. I certainly wouldn't mind if a future edition adopted more of a GURPS-like approach that flattens the low- and high-level ends of advancement a bit. GURPS characters start off as much more competent and...

    Anyone remember Comeliness?

I did use it back in the day, and for a short while into 2nd Edition, but I don't think that it has a place as an "Ability Score" alongside the other six. Charisma is already generally viewed as the "weakest" for the six scores, and adding a 7th would just make for two weak scores. Comeliness...

(Quick Request) Name of a Magic Maul

Or maybe: "Shopping Maul" "Strip Maul" "Mega Maul"

    360 or PS3?

Does anybody really find the quality of standard DVDs so lacking that it justifies a several hundred dollar player plus an extra $10-15 per film for stuff you already have? Seems like a big waste of money to me unless you've got loads of disposable income.

    Skill Tricks; good or bad?

Plus it's yet another book to add to the stack of books required at each game session, and another book to keep switching to and looking up stuff in during play. The table is already crowded enough with piles of books as it is.

    Fallout: worth picking up?

Yes, wear a leather jacket armour while exploring and talking to people in Junktown. I think it's Junktown anyway.

    360 or PS3?

Go with the Xbox 360, hands-down. There are a greater percentage of cross-platform titles this time around than in the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube generation, but the overwhelming majority of those cross-platform titles are being developed primarily on Xbox 360. The PS3 and 360 are probably pretty...

How would you remake the D&D cartoon?

The most cost-effective solution: license and re-dub (with better voice actors) Record of Lodoss War and call it Dungeons & Dragons: Record of Lodoss War or something like that. Come on, like Parn in the first few episodes doesn't just scream "I'm a first-level Fighter!!!"
