What compromise have I been offered? I've been offered "play what I (them DM) allow" or the door, because there are dozens of other players waiting for my spot at the table. That's not a compromise, that's an ultimatum.

So you'd be a jerk about it. And then you have the audacity to tone police me? I'm sorry a tortle killed your family.

No it doesn't. No more so than my wanting to play a tortle demands everyone else play tortles or the DM to fill his world with tortle villains and empires. A tortle village on the edge of the swamp is no different than a tin of caviar on the table next to the veggie tray.

See, I never had that experience. Players tended to be in shorter supply. So much so that a good player (one who knows the rules and makes it consistently) is worth compromising with. I'm sure that if you had a pool of only 10 people, you'd be more willing to entertain people tortle preferences...

No, but I wouldn't tell someone to leave if they brought it to the party...

So here is the funny thing. IF you okayed my (lets say) Hermit Tortle Druid, I'll give you all that info. I'll work around in your setting to make that character fit. Maybe he was awakened by a druid ritual and the spell mutated him to a more humanoid shape? Maybe I'm one of the last of a weird...

I've always considered DM the same as Party Host. When you throw a party, you have added responsibilities your guests do not: menu, venue, decorations, entertainment, etc. That gives you tremendous power to chose things you will like, but you must keep in mind the preferences of your guests as...

Why is your vision worth more than my fun? Wer're back to DM Supremacy. Your fun is more important than mine. My choices is take-it or leave. DM Always WIns.

You seem obsessed with the AC 17 shell. So lets say "you can be a tortle, but your stats are the same as other lizardfolk". Is that a compromise? I get to be a tortle in you don't deal with free full plate at level one.

What it is about a tortle that ruins your ability to have fun? I've been asked why my fun is ruined by not playing a tortle, why is your fun ruined by me playing one?

You have framed the issue where either the DM wins and the player loses or the DM loses and the player wins. That's not a compromise, that's capitulation. So let me answer your question with another: what are you willing to give ME in order to get your wish about me not playing a tortle?

Yes. I get that orcs or Dragonborn or Planetouched don't fit some DMs vision, but MotM has 31 other species in it (29 due to promotion). If you are removing Dragonborn, how hard is it to find a species that could fill their place? I don't like the "there are 10 options, but I only allow 5" style...

The thirty second version would be "start as a fighter, then dual class into mage so that you can be a mage with lots of hp and use weapons and armor"

And yet we've had multiple instances of DMs saying they'd tell players to hit the bricks if the players don't agree to everything the DM wants. The example of the player asking to play a tortle and getting shot down by the DM always ends in the DM's will be done and the player either acquiescing...

There is a major difference between making the final call for the good of group and players and making the final call to satisfy yourself.
