D&D General [+] For (hypothetical) 6e: Which arcane caster class should be the "simple" one?

I maintain that if 4e was published with Essential's out the gate, it would have sold better. At least adding those options to the PHB alongside the traditional would have eased some pain points.

D&D General [+] For (hypothetical) 6e: Which arcane caster class should be the "simple" one?

One simple sub per class (each class). A blaster wizard, healer cleric, buffer bard, elementalist druid, sniper warlock, etc. But to work, subclasses in general need to do more heavy lifting than 3-4 themed class features. Preferably, they should control 5+ class abilities and a significant...

D&D 5E (2024) Mearls has some Interesting Ideals about how to fix high level wizards.

I generally like the complexity of 5e, and most of my complaints are some legacy systems (pact magic, wild shape, subclass progression) being left when the opportunity to fix them was given. But overall I don't think there is any edition I would play for a long period of time but this one and...

D&D 5E (2024) Mearls has some Interesting Ideals about how to fix high level wizards.

5e is my preferred D&D as well, but it's because it's already a compromise of the crunch of 3e and the simplicity of BECMI. (Though I think 5.24 pushes things a little closer to 3e then Basic). That said, it's not perfect and there are things I would want done differently, but I find the more...

Dungeons & Dragons Playtests Four New Mystic-Themed Subclasses

I mean, that's pretty par for the course of you ask Warlord and psion fans... (At least the latter is getting a proper class)

D&D 5E (2024) Mearls has some Interesting Ideals about how to fix high level wizards.

Incorrect. People who want to fix 5e do so in one of two directions: adding crunch and complexity (pf2) or removing it down to the studs (SD). The two represent opposite ends of the spectrum with 5e in the center. So the question of how you fix a given problem in 5e inevitably ends up...

D&D 5E (2024) Mearls has some Interesting Ideals about how to fix high level wizards.

I think this thread shows that any attempt to "fix" 5e results in recreating Pathfinder 2e or Shadowdark. 5e was the compromise edition, everyone's second favorite version and the one that nobody loves but everyone agrees to play. With that in mind, WotC was absolutely correct to update it...

Dungeons & Dragons Playtests Four New Mystic-Themed Subclasses

There were still a lot that got dropped, esp during the Xanathar testing era. I still wish the elemental sorcerers, the harvest druid, Raven Queen patron and brute fighter had made it in some form or another.

Dunno. But it's giving me the "school of invention" vibe that the Ravnica UA (that didn't say it was for Ravnica) had that was clearly for Izzet but they didn't want to give it away so they refused to call it that.

D&D General Does anyone know which products had Elmore's Dragon Slayers, and Proud Of It! art?

Ever since someone pointed out how the dragons wings don't hang limp like the rest of the body, I can't unsee it.

D&D 5E (2024) Unconfirmed Dark Sun World Book

I mean, they are fairly soft limits. That species limit basically equates to "talk to your DM before picking tiefling" and the campaign limit is "your probably going to have to refluff this if you are using it outside it's home campaign." It's a far cry from the deep ban lists of 2e when whole...

D&D 5E (2024) Unconfirmed Dark Sun World Book

Ravnica, Theros and Dragonlance all have a soft limit on species. As in, "these are the common species. Anything else is an outsider and subject to DM approval" Additionally, several backgrounds and feats have a requirement of "X campaign" on them to take said feature. Usually these are world...

    D&D 5E (2024) Predict WotC's 2026 D&D releases

I don't get your hostility. Clearly the module was written before the Ravenloft setting existed, but so was I6 and they managed to rework it to fit the demi plane in Curse of Strahd. Are you suggesting they should have cut the Mists, Vistani and Van Richten from CoS and make it a just regular...

    D&D 5E (2024) Predict WotC's 2026 D&D releases

Now THAT would be a good way to start fixing the mess. Still has issues with three Dark Lords all fighting for space, but at least it feels like escalating dangers rather than everything all at once.

    D&D 5E (2024) Predict WotC's 2026 D&D releases

It's still a convoluted mess with the nature of Ravenloft, and this is from someone who embraces the Dream Logic of 5e's Ravenloft. You misunderstood. Godfrey adds almost nothing to plot. Not as villain, not as anything. He's pretty much a nonentity in it except as the reason you can't storm...

    D&D 5E (2024) Predict WotC's 2026 D&D releases

The problem is that Gryphon Hill only works as a prequel, not sequel, to Curse of Strahd. Even the "official" explanation of it (In the War with Azalin) places the events before Mordent is a domain and places the events as the reason Mordent is absorbed into the Mists. It also absolutely makes...

    D&D 5E (2024) How I would do 6E.

How I would do 6e. Step 1: don't start thinking about it for 5 years. Instead, keep trying to innovate 5e. Step 2: start incorporating good ideas from the last 5 years and what your competitors are doing.
