D&D General New Unearthed Arcana: Subclasses Update

A new Unearthed Arcana just dropped, updating a number of martial classes. Subclasses: Path of the Spiritual Guardian (Barbarian) Path of the Storm Herald (Barbarian) Cavalier (Fighter) Warrior of Intoxication (Monk) Oathbreaker (Paladin) Seems they took the Barbarian complaints seriously...

D&D General Favorite Forgotten Realms products of all time?

I’ve read through about 90% of Heroes and 75% of Adventures, and I have to say these new books are now my personal favorite Realms products.

Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerun - First Impressions

I hope we get these types of book pairs for all the big D&D settings. Loving both books.

D&D General Initial Thoughts on the Two 2025 Forgotten Realms books

A good breakdown, though I disagree about not getting Adventures on Beyond. I would add that, if you use the Maps VTT or you project digital maps to your table via a projector or a screen on your table, then the Adventure book is a must buy because it gives you a huge number of maps, including...

You can buy sled dog services or Axe Beaks in Icewind Dale as mounts, they also have a magical couch service in Baldur’s Gate and covered wagons for The Dalelands. Mechanical Wonders are basically purchasable Niblewrights/robots that can do minor household tasks, or they have others you can...

Yes. The Heroes book iirc. It’s a foldout of Faerun.

Some are very specific. Especially the BG Avernus one. Others have specific moments canonized but not a specific ending, like Frostmaiden.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

It should be noted, the Purple Dragon Knight faction stuff makes it very clear that if you’re a PDK, you’re partnered with a Dragon. Membership even gives you an exotic saddle. The background is titled Squire. So seems clear that if you are trying to play a PDK, you’re playing a squire that is...

As in PCs? From what I’ve read they don’t really go out of their way to frame PCs as working for or against the cult. They simply say “this is what it means to be part of the Cult” and talk member benefits.

In some cases. In others, especially in the case of the 2014 books, they make it clear there are canon endings. Icewind Dale has some of that, as does Baldur’s Gate with Descent Into Avernus and Waterdeep Dragon Heist.

I get people are saying “they could be resurrected” and while that’s true, it’s incredibly unlikely that Stelmane would be resurrected and still be in the position she’s in, so it’s more likely that her BG3 story just… isn’t canon.

The honest answer is simple that BG3 isn’t canon. At least, not fully. Much like the original two Baldur’s Gate games, the overall events have happened in the world but not in any specific way. So they pick and choose which parts are official, and clearly the Stelmane stuff is not official canon.

It is not. The section about Lorroakan makes a very vague mention to his role in the Nightsong quest and makes it clear it happened. But they don’t mention most of the rest of it. Also we know for a fact these books take place on 1501 DR and BG3 takes place roughly a decade earlier.

I think that takes the teeth out of it. If you’re giving us an evil faction, don’t give us an out. The out is leaving the faction. You can take the Dragon Cultist background, and say you’ve left the cult and that gives a reason for you to be good and a plot hook without sacrificing the...

    D&D 5E (2024) Forgotten Realms subclasses discussion.

Had a Winter Walker in a one shot last night. They were awesome. Only level 4 but they stacked it with the new Cold Caster feat and it was a great time.

I think having an Evil faction or two is actually good for the book. There are plenty of tables that want support for playing evil people, and for those that don’t they still have 5 overtly good factions to use.

D&D 5E (2024) How to Make Sammaster the Big Bad of Your D&D Campaign

I wouldn’t use the work “integrate.” The old books are listed as resources for people wanting to learn more. But almost all of them are very clearly old news in the new books, with events in those books being directly referenced as having happened in the past for the most part.

I know Dan worked on these books as a freelancer after he was laid off. He still did occasional work for them independently.
