I see what you mean. I think there are two different philosophies: you either balance against the total output, or you try to keep a balance on a "per round" basis.
If you balance against the total output you could have a monster that deals very high damage for a round only (for likely TPKs)...
Why do you find it against the spirit of the elite monster?
If it has to be two monsters into one, and has the same actions, reactions and bonus actions, one would need to double the damage. However doing that would certainly result in a monster with too high damage output for the given CR...
I think you would get the +2 to melee defense, but you probably won't gain anything for VITAL, as in the description of how defenses are calculated equipment seems to only affect melee and ranged (I think it makes sense too). Final word on this would be from @Morrus of course
I would enjoy the movie for what it is instead of finding what level the characters are supposed to be and be annoyed for some inconsistencies
I mean, the druid did shapeshift a lot but never cast any spell IIRC. IMO it should be possible by the ruleset to have more wild shapes by burning spell...
I'm 100% backing this, even if I already have all the 5e modules thanks to EN5IDER.
With so much land to explore, I think the A5E rules for exploration and journey activities will really have their time to shine and hope they are emphasized enough in this revised version.
For those of us who...
Following this project with a lot of interest!
Also, there was a system probably like this back in the 3.5 era, it was called Eclipse: The Codex Persona, where every single aspect of a character could be purchased via point buy. It might be useful to let it know to the creator, but I couldn't...
I'd love it too, but the overwhelming majority of parties don't play above level 12 or so.
Convincing people that the game can still be fun and challenging at very high level is something that needs to be done before it makes sense to produce material for even higher levels.
Besides, LU is...
I couldn't miss the opportunity to buy WoTBS again, this time for 5e.
The first one I got from the Rebuilding Enworld Kickstarter, way back, and was for 3.5. We played it until more than halfway but using the alternative Trailblazer ruleset (which was AWESOME), and we really did have a blast...
And you really should! The few recent WoTC adventures I tried have a lot of polish on the graphic side, but pretty much all the rest feels quite generic and shallow to me.
I see your points, but at the same time what I see as the defining features of this archetype only come at level 10 and 14, which is quite the wait IMO.
The other features feel a bit underwhelming: 2 are described by yourself as ribbon, one I'd classify as ribbon too (siege monster, damage to...
Now that I check my tables again, it looks way simpler if the Marshall uses the full table for the degrees, but the half for the known maneuvers, and uses a few adjustments. Then the full progression for known could simply be the one of the fighter.
I'll post an update later on
Love the idea!
However I think a bit of tinkering is needed: taking 1 level in fighter and then 1 level in wizard would give immediately all the benefits of Armored Wizard and Ironclad Wizard, plus all the goodies of a fighter (exertion, maneuvers, combat style, weapon proficiencies, etc)...
Ok, yesterday I was more busy then expected, but I managed to create this pair of tables
These tables were generated starting from the ones posted by OP since it was easier for me, I didn't check they are exact but any inconsistency can easily be fixed. This could be an interesting project...
Totally agree. I do believe there were balancing discussions and trade-offs, but the result of having a separate table for each class bothers me quite a bit.
One solution I like more is to create unified progression tables (which can be very useful to design new classes/archetypes as well), and...
Yes, for some reason subtractions tend to speed down gameplay quite a bit.
Anyone remembers good old THAC0? It's not different from BAB/proficiecy bonus, but since the latter require additions instead of subtractions they make for faster gameplay.
Super excited for all projects, except for the regional one. Nothing against japan of course, it's just that those kind of regional setting books are not my jam
