    D&D 5E (2024) How can I do a Charisma-Investigation (or a Strength/Dexterity-Investigation if I can't use Charisma) to find a secret door?

Is the rogue no longer there? Did he just disappear into thin air or did he just not enter the dungeon with you at all?

D&D General Eberron - why don't you run it? [-]

Modern magic. Magic as a substitute/parastitute/branch for technology and science is a big turn-off for me. I like magic to be mysterious and rare in the world.* Eberron appears to lean into modern magic and I'm not willing to spend $25 on a book I likely won't like.^ I don't really care for...

D&D General Kitchen sink setting or narrow genre focus for long-running campaigns (2,5,10+ years)

Or campaigns last 3-5 years! We try to meet every other week, but there are gaps. I don't want to play campaigns anymore.

D&D General Kitchen sink setting or narrow genre focus for long-running campaigns (2,5,10+ years)

I use my own world of Everbee. Right now we are in the Isian area which is mostly underground--so, my version of the Underdark. I have areas (Lamothe) where things are very gothic and areas (Naphtali) where things are very Indian. Chrysi where it's Roman, Maighdine and Lyonaighe where it's...

D&D General 3rd party RPGs using the 5e engine: which ones are your favorite?

Shadowdark's my favorite. I'm looking for less rules, less customization, and more focus on the adventure.

D&D General Why do we color-code Dragons?

I try to obscure everything I can about the monsters. We're as likely to encounter a four-legged black wyvern as we are a dragon with scales so deep blue they're black, that spits acidic fireballs and has a scorpion tail. I see it as a duty to my Players. To keep things fresh.

D&D General Why do we color-code Dragons?

I haven't much time to write at the moment so I apologize for this half-baked thought. Supersymmetry in physics was "in the news" in the 1970s and '80s and I think it had an impact on the community. Or maybe Dungeons and Dragons impacted the physics community.

D&D General What weird CR8 (or greater monster) did the evil water elemental cultists set loose in the flooded lower levels of a desecrated temple?

The Elder Oblex is an "Invasion of the Bodysnatchers" kind of monster with a Challenge Rating of 10. It is found in Volo's Guide (the one in the Multiverse may be missing the Sulfurous Impersonation entry).

D&D General What weird CR8 (or greater monster) did the evil water elemental cultists set loose in the flooded lower levels of a desecrated temple?

How about an elder oblex in the form of a giant blob that fills the entire lower level in a "Crimson Oubliette" style dungeon. Now hear me out here. You can use the oblex' aversion to fire to justify using torches to keep the ooze at bay in a 30-ft. bubble as you explore the dungeon. Ignore the...

DDAL Elven chain armour. do you need light armour proficiency?

I don't fault you for presuming magic is responsible for the training/proficiency, especially since this item is found in the magic items section of the book, but I must stand up and put in a word for MA* and PAMD**. I personally would ignore the "rules" and instead rule that if you wear this...

    D&D General Secret Curse Help

That's definitely going to give them a reason to address the curse. I like it.
