Damit Victor, I wish I could give a thumbs up twice to your post! Say no to Dishwater!

D&D 5E (2024) Help Me Fill Out a Treasure Hoard

I made a giant hoard once and I used an obscure table in the Ultimate Equipment Guide from Pathfinder 1e. The table is called Grade 6 Art Objects on page 391. It is a small list but it contains some items that are replete with fantastic inspiration. Summer of the items are: Frozen Vampire Soul...

    D&D 5E (2014) Building a Better Ankheg

No, it doesn't say anything about solid rock. My book might be old.

    D&D 5E (2014) Building a Better Ankheg

A burrow speed doesn't leave a useable tunnel. I was thinking this as well. However, the Monster Manual specifically indicates that ankhegs leave a tunnel behind when they borrow.

D&D General 5E species with further choices and differences

Like Horwath wrote up thread, Xanathat's guide has some racial feats. They're not powerful, but it sounds like you are more interested in increased customization rather than increased power.

    D&D General Drow/Lolth-Themed Adventure Path?

The Dungeon of the Mad Mage (Undermountain) has a series of drow locations and encounters as a throughline that connects several of the levels. There is even a big spider-shaped fortress.

    D&D 5E (2014) Reverse Time Combat

Nilbogs become goblins and goblins become nobody. Wait, no! Not again?

    D&D 5E (2014) What's your favorite one shot adventure?

We should have suggested that one for the desperate teacher in another thread. 🙃 It's just about simple enough for text phobic grade schoolers. I think they'd have fun too.

    D&D 5E (2014) What's your favorite one shot adventure?

I agree. I've run the Secrets of Sokol Keep from season 1 (DDEX 1-2) a few times. It's a great adventure.

    D&D 5E (2024) Tuning big single creatures into multi-part-creatures.

I like it. I did something like this once with an undead slime dragon attacking a tower. The various parts of the dragon's skeleton were held together by a collosal blob. I had one character fighting the head at the top of the tower while other characters were fighting the claws on separate...

    D&D 5E (2014) Reverse Time Combat

Yeah, your right. In this particular encounter the Players are likely trying to avoid detection. So, when time starts flowing forward again they are left with the knowledge of how they tripped the alarm--a pressure plate under the Stone of Dignity one of the Players' Characters have pocketed...

    D&D 5E (2014) Reverse Time Combat

I like the idea of having limited spell slots. I also like the idea of bargaining for slots. I expect this encounter might need some more straightforward interactive elements. So, at the beginning of the encounter, after they have been introduced to the scene, I would ask the spellcasters to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Reverse Time Combat

Yeah, it seems this encounter can't be lost. It would inevitably move backward until all of the guards disengage. I suppose that is by design, so the encounter doesn't go on indefinitely. I mean, the Players could do weird things like stop attacking, let their opponents push them to full hit...

    D&D 5E (2014) Reverse Time Combat

Maybe they can bargain with me in mid-combat, and say something like "my character flies up to the ceiling on this turn and I will be bound to cast the spell spider climb in the next round after that."

    D&D 5E (2014) Reverse Time Combat

Okay yes! There should definitely be chandelier on the floor with bodies under it (maybe even a Player Character?). A rope nearby. Was it cut? Was it burned? Maybe blood and hungry rats?!

    D&D 5E (2014) Reverse Time Combat

Yes, the culmination of this encounter is that they get to redo the encounter in forward time with the knowledge of how to avoid triggering the response from the guards. And yes, I agree, this encounter can only last a few rounds as it has a lot of potential for frustration.

    D&D 5E (2014) Reverse Time Combat

I haven't mention yet that I am running this encounter with Pregenerated Player Characters. It wasn't pertinent until now. So, Experience awards won't matter much. But, I could make it clear that an alarm has been tripped (instead of keeping that information from the Players), and getting all...

    D&D 5E (2014) Reverse Time Combat

The best I've been able to come up with for that is, No. We cannot attack our allies, nor can we heal our enemies. This is a one-of-a-kind encounter. I expect it will require some Player cooperation and buy-in, but I want to make it fun and give them some tactical things to think about. But not...
