Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Is there any joy in getting the big mass of them into a big argument about what kind of Pizza: Chicago vs. other Chicago vs. other Chicago vs. NY vs. Detroit vs. California vs... in the midst of them trying to eat it, and then just go off with a small group to enjoy your pasta?

Who's on your geek Mount Rushmore?

If we pretend part of being Rushmore is taking the obvious popular choice, then we can skip the arguments, right? (Even though this is on the internet and ENWorld in particular?)

Who's on your geek Mount Rushmore?

Curious and so looked it up... When Mt. Rushmore was started in 1927, Teddy Roosevelt had only been dead for 8 years and out of office for 18.

Who's on your geek Mount Rushmore?

Tolkien, Lee, Lucas, and Gygax ------- insert arguments about Lee and Kirby insert arguments about Gygax and Arneson Is the real Mt. Rushmore in part about easy choices that don't require thinking? Does it have a complete disregard for moral complications? (Googling, apparently they were...

I think it is time for a break.

I've gone long stretches through the years where some of my hobbies faded into the background for a while (ttRPG, MtG, comics, genealogy, reading and posting poetry, etc...), sometimes missing a decade - like in the case of MtG - and most of them came back when the urge hit again.

Streaming services, which do you have or are you getting rid of?

Shudder got a mention on NPR earlier this week: https://www.npr.org/2025/10/12/nx-s1-5566110/why-slasher-movies-still-have-us-watching-through-our-fingers

What are you reading in 2025?

Picked up Nikita Gill's new "Hekate" and am glad I did. My myth intake in recent years has probably just been Gaiman's "Norse Mythology" and I liked this a lot more. It was also about a bunch of the greek myths I wasn't as up on. I kept forgetting it was in free verse and not prose - and I...

King Kubrick: Ranking Stanley's Best Films

I remember having the choice of Star Trek and Black Hole in the theater when they came out and we saw Black Hole. Hadn't seen it again until we rewatched it last year. I had absolutely no memory at all of the hellscape part!

King Kubrick: Ranking Stanley's Best Films

There are a variety of movies over the years where I had already read the book - but I think it was usually a book I liked. Does make me wonder which of those movies I wouldn't have liked without having read the book first.

King Kubrick: Ranking Stanley's Best Films

I have some huge gaps in my literary and cinematographic experience. In the early 2000s we started picking off some of the consensus top 100 films, but never got to 2001 before that effort got sidetracked. Finally saw it tonight. There are many (not very positive) reviews summarized on...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I would happily contribute to an extra $x0 check-off on the state income tax form to help subsidize a few extra highway patrol officers whose primary duties were to nail tailgaiters and those camped in the left lane (when they weren't attending to all of the accidents caused by everyone slowing...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I have a feeling there is not good defense against those who are pathologically opposed to cruise control who also have no sense of their own speed and are expletives. I am hopeful the officer in question would be more annoyed with them than the frustrated person in the left lane. :-(

ChatGPT lies then gaslights reporter with fake transcript

I'm just hoping the raft of intro to AI things popping up in education will help folks understand the breadth of what is out there... and prompt the field(s) as a whole to come up with some useful definitions. Because if AI in some places includes most of statistics, all of machine learning...

ChatGPT lies then gaslights reporter with fake transcript

If someone clicks yes on every spelling suggestion in MS Word or on their phone without thinking about it - I blame the user. If someone clicks on every hint for a relative on Ancestry - I blame the user. Is it marketing for AI that leads people think it is different? If they are a professional...

D&D General What version of D&D are you playing?

Pulled up the menu for maybe our best not-super-formal but still very nice restaurants in Columbia, SC. Appetizers are $12-19, main courses $25-$46, soup and salad $6-$12, and dessert $9. I think dinner with salad and soft drink at our casual neighborhood Greek/Italian place has probably been...

ChatGPT lies then gaslights reporter with fake transcript

A lot of universities in the US (at least until recently) prized various green certifications and have also started buying chatLLM access for all of their faculty and students. I hope the people who give out the former start paying attention to use of the later.

ChatGPT lies then gaslights reporter with fake transcript
