    What's Atop Your Christmas Tree?

Star on top, but the top three or aments below it are a trio of angels.

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

If the AI is good enough to be a DM, should it be more than good enough to be a player? (Card games online have had... Nah, I can't do it. No AI in RPG playing for me.

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

I hadn't thought of this before! What is the word for "hard" in the require skill sense as opposed to "hard" in the requiring the ability to persevere doing something boring?

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

Why can't people only be getting together to play D&D instead of RPGing? Going the other way, why stop at RPGing and not expand to all table top games? Why do the people need to be a "basketball team"? They could play horse with the same ball and court. In gym class we also used the same...

Do bridge, rummy, multiple solitaire, mtg, cribbage, ascension, and the board game bonkers count as other games for this purpose, or only ttrpgs? (Should tttpgers branch out to other classes of games?)

What's the best die type and why is it the d12?

Do you mean the pentagonal trapezodhedron of the trapezohedra family? (Patented back in 1906?) In any case, a d60 (deltoidal hexecontahedron and a Catalan solid) feels tempting sometimes since you can get 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15, 20, and 30 from it if your division is quick enough. But...

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

RE: Things from a few posts above... There are bridge players and there are card players. Getting a group of the former to try spades and hearts and canasta feels non-trivial (although some might also play a few other card games). Similar for chess players vs. board gamers; MtG players vs...

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

They had written: "This doesn't mean groups can't have fun with an ok or sub-par DM. They can. But, if as a player, you are expecting great thing for your year-long campaign," The first sentence and the "if" didn't lead me to thinking "they wouldn't even give the new GM a chance" at all...

I certainly have more patience for youngsters who are trying out things!

I thought I had. And just read it and your response again. It may well be I am misinterpreting somewhere or reading things in to replies.

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

I would guess that a "year long campaign" is likely not the best thing for a lot (most? almost all?) DMs in training who have never run before. Maybe start with something that just lasts a few sessions that fits in between the longer campaigns going on or when a break from them is needed (maybe...

    Today I learned +

We have places around in South Carolina that still have liver and onions sometimes (one of the local meat and three chains has it one day a week) and one of the folks I often eat Friday lunches with likes it. I want to say one of my parents didn't like liver which is why we never had it. Did...

    Today I learned +

Rereading Fer-De-Lance by Rex Stout, and apparently I didn't actually learn the two previous times that Kidneys and Waffles used to be a thing in the mid 1930s. On Newspapers. com you can find references to Creamed Kidneys, Kidney Stew, or Braised Kidneys and Waffles throughout the 20th century.

Four non-D&D games that show the breadth of TTRPGs

Hadn't seen the Year Zero system before. Thanks for posting and leading me to search up it's SRD! https://freeleaguepublishing.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/YZE-Standard-Reference-Document.pdf

What is/are your most recent TTRPG purchase(s)?

Heroes' Handbook was my last arrival. Not sure I'll get as much play in with it as I did with the first edition - but I like it again for all the ideas it gives for games I do run and my own unrealized heartbreaker. (And that at least the long rest period isn't called a day anymore).

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

It feels like there is a lot of space between rock star and not sucking with signs of a positive trajectory. I certainly believe that too many groups don't have nearly enough patience for this process. But I also don't know if I believe there are folks with limited time and a choice of games...

Virtual Happy Hour (Brews & Spirits, Pics & Reviews)

Experimenting with more sours, and DuClaw's 'Sour Me Unicorn Farts; pink lemonade glittered sour ale wasn't bad, but was really disappointing. The first large part was mostly ale with not much sour, and the bottom part of the glass that had closer to what I expected was good but not...
