Unearthed Arcana - Which rules do you use regularly?

We use the LA buy-off regularly, as we've had more than a fair share of planetouched characters. We've also used a cloistered cleric, but most class variants would be allowed if anyone wanted to play them. Nobody expressed any interest in other rules. Although I have this idea about a Lyrandar...

+2 to cha and no counter balance stat: LA +0

Aasimar gets +2 Wis, +2 Cha, and a bunch of othe rminor abilities, but is LA +1. A variant in Player's Guide to Faerûn (a "lesser" aasimar) removes the LA by doing a simple Type change, but, personally, I wouldn't call it balanced and wouldn't allow it IMC.

+2 to cha and no counter balance stat: LA +0

A minor nit-pick, it's both Str and Dex bonus that require a penalty to either a single physical ability score or to two mental ability scores (DMG, p. 173). Regards.

Eberron: Pantheon Worship and Action Points?

The idea of pantheon worship appeared in 2e Planescape accessory On Hallowed Ground, and was also present in 3e's Deities and Demigods, where, IIRC, a character could worship an entire pantheon, provided it was what is called a "tight pantheon" (the core D&D pantheon is a "loose pantheon", in...

List all of your character names! *read the instructions*

Here are some of my characters' names: Atreios Helioforos, human, cleric, male Umbero Marivaldi of House Mhuum, elan, psion (telepath), male Maranzel, human, druid, male Rupert Ravensbeard, human, paladin, male Drabwadnis Swiftwhoops, gnome, illusionist, male Hugnar, dwarf, cleric, male...

What percentage of your RPG time are you DMing?

I'm a back-up DM for my group, for times when our regular DM can't make it to the session. I don't particularly like DM-ing, and always fuss and worry about the adventure and the campaign, and am usually convinced I suck as a DM. My players tell me I do OK, though. I suppose it's just that I'm...

    MIC trumps DMG?

That's probably because they referenced the DMG 3.0 potion table, which listed a potion of enlarge at 5th-level, which was also 250 gp. The potion of enlarge person (as well as the potion of reduce person, listed right below it in both tables) should probably be made at 5th caster level, which...

    Complete Champion excerpts

I'm curious, are you playing in a home-made setting, or are you using one of the published ones? How do you regulate PC access to item creation feats? Do you just make it difficult to pick them, or is it the players themselves who don't take them (for whatever reasons)? I'm asking because...

Thanks for the quick reply, I really appreciate it. Best regards.

Previews for May and Beyond is up

I'm curious, what made you put classed monsters in a MM inthe first place? Why not stick to the traditional MM stuff (like, say, new monsters), and then make a Rogue's Gallery type of book based around creatures with class levels? MMIV was, apparently, rather poorly received (about the only time...

Book of Nine Swords Eternal Blade half-elf?

FWIW, Eternal trance class ability says: Emphasis mine. It is "fluff" text, but it specifically refers to trance, a racial feature posessed only by purebred elves.

Knowledge:Local... What is meant by Local?

I think option #3 is the way to go in Eberron. If you look at the Player's Guide to Eberron, each entry lists Knowledge (local), without specifying it further. Option #2 is the official verison used in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting. Player's Guide to Faerûn (and the errata file, IIRC)...

    MIC - Healing Belt errata?

That's the whole points behind eternal wands in Eberron, so that magewrights (a NPC arcane spellcaster/crafter class with a limited spell list) could lend arcane battlefield support during the Last War (the really big war that lasted a 100 years).

What's your alignment in real life?

Congratulations. You just described me :D Except I'm true neutral with lawful and (slight) good tendencies (NOT "lawful good" tendencies, my lawfulness and goodness are strictly separate). Most (if not all) alignment tests gave me those results, including an old MS DOS one with over 400...

Character Names - How Do You Come Up With Yours?

Since we mostly play in FR, I take my inspiration from the sample names by race/culture page in the FRCS. Sometimes I use a name from the list, and sometimes I just check it for inspiration (and to see what names from certain cultures sound like). Otherwise, I just use whatever sounds the best...

    [Bo9S] Crusader Maneuvers Question

Sage answered it recently in the Ask Wizards web feature (Link). It's B), by the way. I had a discussion about this with a friend of mine, and I believe it would be a bit too much to allow option A) to work (even though that's what the RAW implies), because if a crusader would decide to wait...

    Radiant Servant Empowered/Maximized Healing

I asked the same question a few days ago over on the WotC boards (link here). The opinions are divided. I even posted the question to the Ask Wizards, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for answer. FWIW, I think it should apply to all healing spells cast by RsoP, but then again, I am/was...

Symbols for the Schools of Magic

The beginning of the Magic chatper in the PH (p. 169) has school symbols on it (see the whole image here). These are the same ones that appeared in the black-cover version of the AD&D 2e PHB (see attachment; hope I'm not breaching any CoC by posting it; it's from the 2e Core Rules CD). Regards.

    I would play a bard if. . .

I voted first option, although I don't like them that much. I think bards are one of "situational" classes -- they work fabulously in a story-driven, intrigue- and/or diplomacy-heavy campaign. In a "default" D&D campaign, they make for a good fifth member. But, in the end, it all depends on the...
