    D&D 5E (2024) Abusing True Strike 2024

It's a bad fix - since it also eliminates Pact Blades and artifacts, as well as shadow blade. And flame blade, though that's less common.

    D&D 5E (2024) Abusing True Strike 2024

Except that you still need to make a strike with a weapon as part of the casting, so unless you have a weapon and a focus you couldn’t use a focus anyways. (Use a weapon means no fist or claw either)

    D&D 5E (2024) Abusing True Strike 2024

Even with all that it’s not an OP combo - it still doesn’t work with Extra Attack unless you get several levels of fighter in, and without that it’s weaker than a base rogue’s Sneak Attack. Even with that it’s a 7th level character spending a spell slot to get a bit ahead of a base rogue.

D&D General Is this invocation idea reasonable?

Should be fine, certainly not game breaking by itself.

    D&D 5E (2024) Abusing True Strike 2024

You just made me realize it shouldn’t work with Pact Blades either.

    D&D 5E (2024) Abusing True Strike 2024

That’s one of the dumber Sage Advice rulings (no listed price = worthless), especially since it also means you can’t true strike with an artifact (because priceless = no listed price = worthless)

    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

Best you could do is a John Wick /Assassin’s Creed style assassin, which is just a rogue subclass with dagger bonuses.

    D&D 5E (2024) [+] What does a non-spellcaster Psion need/look like?

Something other than spell slots. Ideally no components eithet. Other than that it can follow the general rules for magic so as to not side-step the usual defenses, but it should be distinct from “casting a spell” in a noticeable way. My personal preference is for psi dice, currently.

    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

Should be: warlord. It’s a major niche that you can only sort-of fill with a very specific build for fighter (or with bard if you don’t mind refluffing spellcasting as non-magical) Likely: Blood Hunter, which might accidentally cover gish well enough.

D&D General What if every dragon was unique?

IIRC, there’s almost 50 different kinds of dragon in 3.5 DnD if you scour all the sourcebooks. Which is probably more than any playable setting really needs. That’s just true dragons and not counting age categories separately.

D&D General What if every dragon was unique?

Counterpoint: if I want dragon-riders to be a major thing in my campaign, then dragons can't be much rarer than warhorses. But trying to make one kind of dragon fill both roles isn't going to work well.

Poll: VTT Users - Do you prefer self-hosted or cloud-based VTTs?

I gotta admit the main question isn't really a factor for me at all - at least on the payer side it just does not matter how it's hosted. Simplicity and stability are the main things I want from a VTT. Unless you're custom-building a whole VTT to optimize for a particular high-crunch game...

D&D 5E (2024) Class and Subclass Design: What Works

One area 5e struggles with is adding martial proficiency to full-casters, mostly because I think the power budget left over after being a full caster just doesn't have room for much else. Plus having melee-capable AC is too much defense for a full caster (who need to be squishy to not actually...

What constitutes a "hit" in your mind?

I'll start by saying - a miss is almost always going to be "the target's defenses worked." So against an armored death knight or giant dragon, a miss is the attack bouncing off the armor. If it's a nimble wererat, the wererat dodged out of the way. Against a mind flayer who cast shield, the...

D&D General The rapier in D&D

There’s still some peoples in Africa who hunt huge game (elephants, giraffes) as a rite of passage and proof of skill. The hard part is chasing the target for a few days after you wound it so it doesn’t even get a chance to heal. Poisons are sometimes used. Even these people don’t consider this...

D&D General The rapier in D&D

Clearly what the people want is a giant chart with different damage values for each weapon against each kind of monster! (Even Rolemaster only had like, three categories of target)
