Taylor Navarro Joins Wizards of the Coast as D&D Designer

I think that we can look at 4E as being an example of a change too far - at least for many fans. But let's consider a few points: 1) 4E came out in 2008. And while I don't have the numbers, I'd suggest that it was trying to cater to an audience that hadn't grown in decades. Today's 2024 5E...

Taylor Navarro Joins Wizards of the Coast as D&D Designer

Yeah. I think something akin to Daggerheart with the D&D brand attached would be closer to what people actually want from D&D, not tracking arrows, counting squares, trudging through low levels fighting rats, meaningless character death, etc. I think if many people knew there were other games...

Taylor Navarro Joins Wizards of the Coast as D&D Designer

Well, I'm not a talented designer and I'm probably too steeped in the traditions to be creative in that way. But I'd steer away from slow, tactical, crunch and go with fast, narrative, and cinematic game play. It seems pretty clear that no new players care about tracking arrows and mundane stuff...

Taylor Navarro Joins Wizards of the Coast as D&D Designer

What I want is a bold, new direction that is likely impossible under the corporate structure of Hasbro. Let these new designers make their game. We've had the D&D of Mike Mearls for 12 years. We've had Jonathan Tweet's for 26 years. We've had Gygax and Arneson's for 50+ years. And we'll still...

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

Apparently Goodman wants that racist money real bad. Let's see. CSIO funded at $600,000. Caverns of Thracia (also JG) reached $655,000. Dark Tower (also JG) was $450K. Most of their other BackerKits are in the $200K - $300K range, with their current at $160K. So it does look like JG products...

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

Not to try to answer for @Artamo, but my reading of the post was that Gal is being put in the "good" category with Kelsey Dionne. Unless I just really misunderstood it.

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

My own friends who are OSR players over a certain generation have been leaning towards that point of view over the years. It's sad to see, but nearly every one of them thought I was making too big of a deal about Bledsoe. They're very much "anti cancel culture." Their games have a feel of...

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

I don't think Clark Peterson has been involved with Necromancer Games for actual decades at this point. I think he left around the time 3.5 ended, sold his stakes, and got out of the industry. I could be wrong though.

    Kickstarters by YouTube influencers

I thought he had stopped producing content, but amazingly there is new stuff from a month ago. I guess I just stopped caring to watch them.

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

I already own a few DCC funnels in PDF from past bundles, so it's not really a question of me supporting Goodman by buying new product. It's more the issue, do I mention the controversy in the podcast? If I ignore it, does that conflict with my ethics?

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

Yeah. My friends were asking if I would run a Funnel on their gaming podcast. I was considering it, but it would feel wrong to support Goodman at this point.

    Kickstarters by YouTube influencers

Looks like you made the better decision. :) Still don't know if I "needed" 13A 2e either. Probably should've skipped many of my Kickstarters. These days, I'm avoiding most crowdfunding products.

    Kickstarters by YouTube influencers

Not a flop as far as the funding goes since it made $2.2 million on Kickstarter. But yeah, will be "at least a year" before any physical books will be done. And what we're gonna get likely won't touch the quality of systems like Nimble. Oh well. That's a $145 pledge of disappointment from me.

All the design is basically being handled by the community playtests. Dungeon Coach basically has no idea or plan for the project. When asked about the action economy being similar to Pathfinder, he essentially admitted he knows no systems beyond 5e D&D. Playtests can be fine. But they should...

    Kickstarters by YouTube influencers

At the time, both YouTuber Dungeon Coach's DC20 and 13th Age 2nd edition were being crowd-funded at the same time. I ended up cancelling my pledge for 13th Age and moved it to DC20 because of the exposure of the DC system. It seemed that several times a day, DC was interviewing, discussing game...
