What Music Was Gary Gygax In To?

I think, as you post in your topic, that he was into Jazz. Blues. That type of music. I think he actually really liked music as well. No one really asks about what happened to the record collection though, I suppose Luke or Ernie knew what happened to it though.

D&D 4E WotC, DDI, 4E, and Hasbro: Some History

Wasn't there a point where they had 80K+ subscribers to it (yes, Beyond has exceeded that by far, if Beyond was owned by WotC at the time of 4e and was in similar make up as it is today, 4e may have actually been one of the stronger showings). If we go at the low end of $10 a month for a...

TSR On the Relative Merits of the TSR Editions

I'll repost this from the other thread We still used Gold for XP in 2e. It was stupid not too. Unless one uses the completely arbitrary story awards which have no real basis (IMO) of what standard to really rely on except DM judgement and the "feel" of it in an analogous way to some...

TSR Why would anyone want to play 1e?

We still used Gold for XP in 2e. It was stupid not too. Unless one uses the completely arbitrary story awards which have no real basis (IMO) of what standard to really rely on except DM judgement and the "feel" of it in an analogous way to some suggestions, levelling is slowed down to a snails...

D&D 5E (2024) PAX WotC Dungeons and Dragons speculation thread.

I think that was the Player's Option Box Set, sometimes it was wrapped up with the second 3.5 Basic set as a combo. With that combo I think you also got a free box of miniatures as well. I got a copy of the Paperback PHB and I think I may have also gotten a rare DMG version as well...

AD&D 1E What was so bad about unearthed arcana 1e?

3e and especially 3.5 would be your bane if you didn't like to build your own monster versions or upgrade monsters. They almost demanded you do it for every monster encounter the DM made, and was DM intensive in monster handling and creation. Far more, several times more, than ua or anything...

New Star Trek Movie Coming From D&D Movie Creators

Well, I also hope it's not another Kirk/Spock rehash at this point. A new crew could be fun. It could be set in any era of Trek, even. An interesting idea that I think could be revisited with a recasting or getting the old actors is showing something that the NX-01 was up to between the...

    You're Top-10 Movies/Shows based on Games

I don't know if I can list 10, but I'd probably put my favorites as 1. Mortal Kombat (90s) - This movie just rocks. It's an awesome movie. Even if it wasn't based on a Video game, it would be awesome. 2. Street Fighter II (animated version) - This is actually another really great...

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

Quality for the 3.X line was generally outstanding. This 5e AiF is perhaps the best book since the FRCS (IMO) that's come out since the release of the FRCS. I am seriously impressed with it. Perhaps it was because I went in expecting something more like the SCAG or how they treated Planescape...

Shawn Levy Provides Update on Netflix D&D Show

Based on how that's worked out (conflicts galore) I don't think I'd ever want someone like Mr. Hildalgo ever coming close to controlling lore in anything. The lack of consistent lore and conflicts within it (after they "wiped" the lore originally, including some of the items considered A Canon...

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

There was an entire line for FR under 3e and 3.5, some rather generic (such as Dragons and Magic of Faerun...etc). Of course there were those under 4e (FR books, Neverwinter book, the Living campaigns set in FR, etc), and 5e (also some living campaigns such as murder in Baldurs gate during the...

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

After finally having got through this book I'd say it's the best general FR source book that's come out since the 3e FRCS. Fantastic book for source material. Not as good as the FRCS, but better than just about any other book that's come out sense in a general way. The only one that comes...

    General video game discussion

There are two that I think almost fit the bill and one that isn't really fit the bill at all but can be a substitute. You should give Galactic Civilizations 2 a try. It's pretty decent. The other would be more of an Indie that they've been working on since forever, and has different...

    Noirvember

I think that's a reference to TNG and Picard in one of his holodeck adventures where he plays a detective and a lady walks in which someone comments on (Beverly?).

D&D General New Official Forgotten Realms Books Trailer

Okay, the Beholder is easy to identify. I imagine one of those around the table is a goblin, but what are the other two?

AD&D 1E What does this (d8, d6) dice notation mean in the DMG?

I never played Dark Future. WHFB (it's been a hot minute for me) used d6's, generally on a table to compare WS or BS to each other and S and T or other stats to determine if you hit and how much damage you did. Dark Future possibly could be the other one you were thinking of?

AD&D 1E What does this (d8, d6) dice notation mean in the DMG?

I didn't play Blood Bowl as much so I don't recall, but Advanced Heroquest used a unique system of D12s instead.

    What was your 2nd RPG?

That was over 45 years ago (almost 50 years ago I suppose by some counts). I have no idea. I don't recall what my second RPG was. Seriously, I haven't the foggiest. It may have been Holmes...but that's still D&D. I may have tried Traveler or Tunnels and Trolls, but I did not own the rules...
